Nestled just steps away from the iconic Père Lachaise Cemetery, Batistou provided us with an unexpectedly delightful culinary respite at the end of a long day of exploration. The ambiance, with its warm lighting and bistro-style decor, evokes the comforting charm of dining in a cherished family home—a sentiment that the cuisine mirrored perfectly.
We began our meal with a classic: escargot. The snails were deliciously tender, but I must note that the butter, while richly infused, was slightly overcooked, muting the delicate flavors of the herbs. That said, the dish remained satisfying and authentic.
For the main courses, we indulged in two quintessential French dishes. The confit de canard was truly superb—crispy skin giving way to tender, succulent meat that felt like a masterclass in French comfort food. Equally commendable was the filet de boeuf, cooked to perfection and elevated further by a peppercorn sauce that deserves special mention for its depth and balance. The roasted potatoes and salad accompanying both dishes were thoughtfully prepared and complemented the mains without stealing the spotlight.
Dessert brought us a crème brûlée. While it was competently executed, it lacked the flair or depth of flavor to make it memorable. Nonetheless, it rounded off the meal on a pleasant, if unremarkable, note.
The experience was enhanced by a well-chosen glass of Pinot Noir, which paired seamlessly with both dishes. The service, attentive yet unintrusive, added to the feeling of being genuinely welcomed—a rare quality in many bustling Parisian bistros.
In summary, Batistou offers an honest and unpretentious dining experience, rooted in traditional French cooking. While there are minor areas for improvement, it’s a restaurant that leaves you feeling cared for and content. It’s the perfect spot for anyone seeking hearty, home-style French cuisine...
Read moreAtmosphere: very nice, a cozy café which shows its 60 years of history but is very well kept
Service: the servers were very nice and we communicated in English perfectly. The only fault was they brought us beef tartare instead of the salmon tartare we ordered, but we ended up not switching
Food: Burrata: served with pesto, cherry tomatoes and baked pizza dough; the burrata was the perfect level of creaminess and the dough was crispy Beef tartare: served with French fries, salad and raw egg; I didn’t taste this one but my boyfriend enjoyed it even though he liked the duck confit better Duck confit: served with salad and fried cubed potato; absolutely stunning, the duck was cooked to perfection, tender, juicy and falling off the bone, and the skin was perfectly crisp; I also enjoyed the vinaigrette on the salad; the only note I’d say is personally I would have put more salad and less potato to balance it out, but that’s if I were looking for a flaw Crème brûlée: not too sweet, with a very nice texture
Overall, a solid 9/10 and I would visit again if I come back to Paris. We booked with TheFork and got 50% off on the food but it’s honestly worth it without the...
Read moreFirst time I’ve been in Paris and found this restaurant from reddit suggestions. And it was AMAZING.
I ordered duck leg and it was a huge amount of fries with some vegetables and the duck itself. From the pictures you may think it’s not enough but you are wrong. I’m a big eater and it was more than enough. Best duck I’ve ever eaten.
The staff were friendly enough and they spoke perfect english.
REMINDER: I reserved my table with “The Fork” application and I had %50 discount on the main dishes. Don’t miss it.
Will definitely come back in my next visit to try...
