If youre a resident of CIUP a bulgogi or bibim are ok deals for 11 euros. If one is hungry and lazy a weekday afternoon, go for it as there is no competion. However they dont pop like Korean food should and kind of tastes like one was attemting to make it at but dont know what Korean food should taste like. It lacks several key ingredients and a lot of sauce that makes Bibimbap what it is. It is not very Authentic despite being in the Korean house. They could use an actual Korean revamping the menu and training the chefs such that they have a reference what it should taste like.
The other meals are not as good. Noodles have a bad texture for being egg-noodles and lack every piece of the umami and taste of a Korean kitchen, it also lacks protein. There are various plates where pork are served in a with kimchi in like a stew, but branded differently. There is way to little meat and you might get only a few bites of tiny pieces of pork that drowns out in kimchi, in what only becomes cold/warm kimchi bathing in its own sauce with nothong else. These plates are not cheap mind you and have no rebates so stay away.
There is barely any sense of what constitues good service at a resturant among the staff. One minor thing is that even if is compleltey empty they'll insist on you sitting in the corner as opposed to the nicer tables as if a football team is about to march in (there never is). Whereas at all other resturants where tables are not reserved they say'll 'have a seat where you like". So I'll always explicitly ask for a different table and there usually no problem. If im paying 11 euros a weekday it dont care about service whatsoever for but a proper dinner with a desert and drink etc for over 35 euros per person I definetly would care.
Then one thing that ticked me off today was that i paid too much, which happens, pas grave. It was a busy/stressful day there and I was simply presented the card reader svreen facing away from me (no questions asked) and i tapped it but when i rached over the counter I saw I paid too much since the residents-discounts was not in place. I didnt ask for money back which btw would have been reasonable. So since it could be interpreted as misunderstanding I simply asked if I could grab a soda to go then, not even a desert, café or somthing that took time to prepare. The soda costed far less than the amount I overpaid and costs the resturant like 30cents. It would have been such simple way of "resolving" the situation by just handing over a can. But I got a resolute no even after a bit of arguing, which I didnt feel comfortable or had much energy to do in front of 20 waiting customers.
I get the guy was a bit stressed (during olympics) and maybe tired of all the customers but that is just kind of rock bottom service for a reocurring customer. Apart from being subjectivley bad experience, I do also think it was plain wrong.
Edit: It seems to be the same guy other people have had complains about, who btw seems to be guy running most of daily operation. If he doesnt ask weather or not one has rebate and simply presents the cardreader facing away and expects the customer to interveine and abort the transaction; this will keep happening. To then try to hussle the customer out of 4/5 euros when they as a resident are a frequent customer is...
Read moreI’ve been a regular guest at Comptoir coréen for the past 2 years. Comptoir coréen is located in the heart of the Cité Universitaire where are located 'dorms' for international students. Many of the recent dorm buildings have been designed with a restaurant.
That’s the case of Comptoir Coréen (and its sister deli shop) which is located at the ground floor of the Maison de Corée. It has a nice terrace that gives onto one of the many lawns of Cité Universitaire and a spacious dining room with 20ish tables.
The menu offers the most popular Korean dishes including bibimbaps, noodle dishes, and garaetteok (the cylinder-shaped rice cakes). My favorite dishes are offered as starters which include the Dubu Kimchi (tofu with stir fried pork and kimchi) and the Dak Gang Jeong (fried chicken glazed in a sticky sweet sauce).
Most of the dishes use the ingredients sold in the next door deli shop. For some dishes, that makes their price tag a little too steep in my opinion. That’s the case of the Mandoo or the Ramyeon. The other dishes that take more time to prepare are quickly and well-executed. That is when the restaurant is not swamped with guests which can be the case at lunch time as employees from surrounding companies will place their orders over the phone and come for pickup.
The beef bulgogi, also used in their bimbibaps, is super tender and well marinated. I would have expected it and some of the other dishes to be a little more spicy to help overcome the sweet taste.
Overall, the Comptoir coréen is a great option in a neighborhood where no restaurant can be found offering a similar friendly environment and quality meals. I regret that over the years the menu has shrunken by dropping off some really nice dishes (yet more complex to process) such a the seafood pancakes, the hot dogs, or some of their desserts (the hotteok or the bingsu that depends on the mood of the...
had a terrible experience here - a waiter, who did not seem to treat me in a friendly way from the beginning, tried to chase me out within 5-7 minutes of me receiving my food. the restaurant closes at 3pm, and i received my food at 2:35pm. And from then on, i started a conversation with someone from my home country from another table, and it was an important opportunity for me to connect with them as I had never met someone else from Singapore in Paris. The conversation was not more than 10 minutes, more like 5 minutes.
this one waiter attempted to clear my food (still 80% unfinished) of the restaurant 3 times. once while i was standing near my table, and then i tried to eat as fast as i could. another, while i was still standing, and another time, while i was sitting down and eating as quickly as i could but someone was talking to me. Bear in mind i was not the last person in the restaurant - there were at least 6 tables still seated, food uncleared on other tables, and people still eating mid-way, people getting their bill in a long line. he chose to harass me, multiple times, within 30 minutes, while there was a full restaurant still in operation.
I reported this to the rest of the staff who were kind enough to apologize and give me a free drink at the end, to make up for their colleague. I have no issues with any of the other staff, they were great. However, i received a dismissive attitude from that one waiter, and then when i mentioned i will leave a review, he started giving explanations that don't really make sense, and actually started apologizing for the first time, repeatedly.
the waiter was wearing blue hoodie. this occurred between...
