The booking system is horrible and they block 50 euros per person on your credit card if you book a table. It makes the entire booking extremely stressful.
In his answer below, the restaurant owner says they do not charge 50 euros. That is true. As I said, they block the amount on your card. They'll only charge if you cancel within 24h of the dinner. That's extremely stressful. So if you fall sick shortly ahead of the dinner, you'll pay for the dinner even if you didn't eat anything. The other restaurants in the area have all simple booking systems that not require credit card blocking, so this is just worst.
We were “shamed” into ordering entre plat dessert, even if we are not used to eating that much. The waiter kept implying we were being “cheap” unless we ordered the full meal course. Very unpleasant.
Again the owner who answered below didn't understand what I said. I didn't say the restaurant offered a "formule" or had a closed 3 course meal. Its an a la carte menu. What I said is that the waiter shamed us into ordering a 3 course meal, or else, we were "cheap". This actually happened in December, when we went to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. The January visit to this restaurant was the second, and last one.
One of the orders came wrong. We had to wait for the preparation of the correct dish which ruined the dinner entirely. Either someone ate alone, or else everybody else ate cold food. Still, I can understand mistakes like these happen. What should never happen is that we got charged for both plates, the wrong one and the the delayed one.
Food is overpriced, as everyone pointed out in the reviews.
The upside is that the food is good. But you can find plenty of restaurants with good food around...
Read moreWe needed a table for 11 people on Christmas Day with no booking made. We were desperate, we found this place on open table they had a table for us so we came to try it.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think great Italian food does not exist or maybe it is too effing difficult to come by.
The food we had was good not great.
Meat ball in marinara sauce was well done with a tasty tomato sauce. But lacked a wow factor.
The misto fritto was what you would expect. Crunchy but tasteless. Shame there was no dipping sauce.
The crunchy artichoke was really the star dish! Never had artichoke done like that!
The main dishes were less appealing:
Tagliatelle bolognaise average not wow. The tomato sauce was good not great. Lacked the umami taste I always dream a bolognaise sauce to deliver.
The polpo was the worst we had in years. So chewy we returned the plate.
4 glasses of wine
The vitello milanaise was ok did not have anything special.
Would I come back, not necessarily, as everything was average not great. But maybe it is just me with Italian food, I cannot get over the food experience I had in Rome and nothing I had...
Read moreA very poor attempt at an Italian restaurant. The Jerusalem Artichoke had the very smallest of hearts, the crisp leaves were indeed crispy however the heart had not been prepd properly and the spines from the middle had been left in very unpleasant. The pickled cauliflower and onion garnish served with it was very nice. The olive oil and basalmic with the bread was of a very poor quality and the bread was not fresh. The banquet seats were filthy and need recovering The tables are badly chipped and are in desperate need of some love and attention. The plate one of our main courses was served in was filthy and the dish was replaced. My friends steak mashed potato and gravy was steak mashed potato and meat blood, there was no Jus and the blood was due to the steak not being rested… Our two coke zeros were lovely. The service was Parisian style when they know they have a problem but don’t want to deal with it. Maybe we were just unlucky… but Epoca is very very tired and needs some attention. Bon chance
NICE COMMENTS BY THE OWNER...
