Disaster! I’m waiting for the digestion to comment further this horrible culinary anniversary we spent there! Well, I can’t wait to share the worst part... the LIVING WORM in my main...
Thanks to the Chef to have answered but let me explain a bit more in details what happened. So we were there for our anniversary, we wanted something nice and not too pretentious. We chose this restaurant according to the fact that it's well referenced both in Fooding and Guide Michelin.
The first disappointment came entering the restaurant as they obviously have an issue with their exhaust fan. Ok, it's an opened kitchen, but it really smelled like old frying oil (our coats do still smell after that...).
We chose the 5-course menu (69€ per person) together with the suggested wine pairing for 40€ per pax for 5 half glasses (7cl) of wine. I thought the wine pairing was quite expensive but my husband wanted to enjoy the evening so we agreed on it.
The first issue came with this wine pairing: for the first 3 courses, we waited more than 5mn between the time the plates were on the table and the wine was served. Let me say that the food was almost cold when we could begin to sip...
Then, came the issue with the fish. I buy myself fresh monkfish and I obviously know that you can find those "parasites" aka worms in them. But I wash the fish before cooking it and once cooked I don't see how it could still be living. After eating one third of my course, I realised I had a LIVING WORM (3-4 cm) trying to get out of my plate!!!!!! The waiter suggested that the chef could give me a new plate, but come on, I was not able to eat the same thing after what I saw in my plate just before.
We had the meat course after that, veal, and to be fair, it was very good. But then came the pre-dessert, with lemon mousse that tasted more after fish than lemon. I tasted the fish, my husband did and at least our neighbors (who didn't dare saying it at the waiter) did taste it too. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE ???? The waiter took my plate almost not touch and didn't even looked surprised. It's not the combination of any kind of ingredients, I even wonder if the wormy fish was not in the mousse as a revenge from the chef.
I was so in shock that I don't even remember what was the last dessert (but probably not bad as I ate it :) ).
Well, accidents can happen, even great cooks can do mistakes and waiters can be tired of a long day but.... after saying nicely and softly all our disappointments, the waiter came with the bill and a royal gesture : 6€ discount on the 222€ bill!!!! 6€!!!!! We were speechless, we paid and went away.
We were there for one special evening, our anniversary, one of our first night out after the birth of our baby. It was supposed to be a chilled-laid-back-romantic evening that was at the end quite ruined. Well, at least, we have something to tell people and we will laugh at it at the end, but it was a terrible night out where we felt a little scammed.
Google, Tripadvisor, La Fourchette and so on are one thing. But this behavior is not acceptable and deserves publicity to all the major guides where Plume...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant following a booking mistake on our side (too many restaurants called « Plume … something » in Paris. But we arrived in time in this tiny restaurant where cancellations fee seem to be the norm, somewhat understandable because of its small size and relative isolation which will not allow back-up customers in case of last minute cancellation. We liked the quality of the food, especially the main courses. We did not appreciate so much the absence of apéritives selection (very very limited), also the starters are quite small portions regardless of which one you take. In summary: globally good food but quite expensive when looking at the size of the portions. We did appreciate the flexibility to amend one dish because of a special diet, with good weather most likely more enjoyable to eat outside than inside,...
