Was immediately attracted to this restaurant by the charming decor. And then once inside it was all downhill from there.
We were greeted by the hostess"Nous acceptons pas de ticket resto"..... No hello or welcome. It almost felt insulting or judgy. My friends and I just laughed it off not thinking twice.
Once sat down we were given a bowl of artisanal roasted peanuts with various herbs and spices. It was quite enjoyable while looking at the menu.
The menu was quite confusing as some of the name of the dishes were bizarre, as if taking lines from poems and putting them through Google translate a couple hundred times. Like "Misunderstood summer aubergine" or "Sad tiger stick" and "Spring tradition of winter". They did not describe anything about the dishes or have any ingredients. So you were forced to pick a "pretty poem".
The dishes arrived plated nicely in ceramic plates, bowls and Banana leaves. My entrée the "Traditional summer festival"... it smelled of stomach acid and the seasoning/texture was wayyyyyy off. I found two small cubes of chicken, it seemed either the chef dropped it accidentally, ran out of mise en place, or was just cheap. I could not finnish my plate as it was inedible, so did 2/3 of the group. One of my friend had ordered a salmon dish, he could not find a single piece of salmon in his dish. One must have guessed the dish was called "Spirit of the lost salmon."
Then the main course arrived. Absolutely a disaster. They were once again plated very nicely. I had ordered the "Misunderstood summer aubergine". It resembled something the chef threw onto the wall, like a wet paper towel and then put on a plate. I found pieces of frozen ground beef and 3 slivers of bell pepper. I think the dish should be renamed "Dog food misunderstood as Aubergine". Dissapointing for a dish that cost 14 euros.
Annother friend had ordered a duck dish. The Duck was way overcooked, we all felt sad that a living creature was killed to be cooked in such a barbaric manner. She asked very nicely if she could send back/exchange the dish. The waitress was immediately aggressive speaking in a above tone of voice for about 6 minutes. "You have to pay for that!", "Duck is expensive...", "If everybody else acted like you I will be bankrupt...", "You don't know anything about thai food...", "Duck is like porc you have to cook it alot otherwise you will get sick!".
We were immediately uncomfortable from the "attack" and the lack of customer service. We did not dare let her know that we were all friends from Ferrandi University and are now pastry/culinary chefs in various michelin restaurants/hotel palaces. If there is one thing the group knew about was food.
We decided to cancel our desserts and stop drinking from the pitcher of water, from fear of spit or other ways our food could be altered/sabotaged.
When we went to pay our bill of over 150€ we noticed we were all charged 6€ each for a rice garnish. One could only guess it was the 1/3 of a cup that we had on our plate. About a centime for each grain.
We asked if this was an error, she immediately took the same previous tone "It is extra! You must pay!". We told her we did not order it and demanded if it could be removed from the bill. She said only the manager can do that, if she did, it would come out of her pocket. We asked for a manager/owner, she responded obviously lying that he was not here. We paid just to get out of this absolute nightmare.
This was sincerely the worst restaurant of our lives.
The only reason it's not zero stars is for the interior decorator who brought something positive for...
Read moreI recently was in Paris and a friend had told me a of a great Thai restaurant. It is located on Ave DIvry an area known for its asian influence. It seemed a bit small and cozy at first but arent all the places in paris. The food was fantastic and can be made very spicy a quality I very much adore. The service was top notch, It was not like in the states where they bug you every 5 minutes but not a typical french place where they really pay no attention to you. If you are near Place DItalie take Ave Choisy south to Ave D`Ivry look for Thai Royal on the right hand side. I promise you, you will not be dissappointed. Cheers and happy...
Read morevery disappointed night out in this restaurant with friends. We ordered red curry beef, green curry chicken (it smells so bad we barely touched it), papaya salade and mango salad (they were both so acide we couldn’t finish either). The two pineapple fried rice we ordered were just humiliating...there’s no pineapple whatsoever. Finally, the sticky rice is very dry and hard...we couldn’t wait to finish the bad meal and go get a dessert elsewhere... btw, we were four adultes and it costs us 120 euros...we are very much disappointed. Never...
