We had a drink at the Taverne Sainte Odile on the previous evening before going elsewhere to eat, the waitress who served us was polite and friendly. On the evening of our visit, we had stopped for another drink but decided to stay and eat at the restaurant (without checking the reviews) an hour later, too, as the town of Obernai was quite busy due to the 15th Obernai Music Festival. We arranged this with the serving staff and at the agreed time we requested a menu. The menu was a short, limited menu on account of the Music Festival and I ordered the entrecote steak, my partner ordered the spaghetti with prawns. The steak was almost completely inedible, consisting as it did of 80% mainly connective tissue and tendons. I had to ask three times for the salad to accompany my steak. The ‘frites’ with the steak tasted as if the cooking oil had gone rancid – despite this, having cycled all day, I ate them to keep up my blood sugar. My partner’s spaghetti and prawns were overcooked. When I pointed out the inedible steak to the waitress, she quite rightly said that she was there to serve customers and she was not the cook but she would return it to the cook. The waitress then came back with the offer of a free desert or digestive drink – I declined both but this was an admission that the steak was not good. At the table alongside us another group of customers expressed that they, too, were dissatisfied with the steak.
I asked for the bill, which included the charge for the entrecote steak – I stated that I would not pay for this. The waitress asked me to take it up with the manger/owner. The manager/ owner was dismissive from the outset. I told him firmly that I would not pay for the entrecote steak and that if he was unhappy, he should call the police. The manger/owner became increasingly angry to the point where I simply took the bill and subtracted the charge for the steak and stated that I would pay the reduced amount. After some more aggression, the owner/manager finally accepted this reduced payment...
Read moreWhen we sat at the table (3 grown up's, 2 kids), we waited 10 min for waiter to notice us, we were the only ones there. We ordered food, waitress brings and sets our drinks and announces that kitchen will open in 30 min lol, so we were in such a bad spot cos we already ordered, drinks are here but for food you have to wait at least an hour or more. They should have said that before we order lol. So bad. Then we waited for our food 1h 15 min. While we waited we noticed that tables haven't been cleaned ever, full of dust and cigarette ash, forks and knifes were already sat before we even got there, and they were all dirty. Finnaly food arrives, which was overcooked or burnt, even kids fries and nuggets were stone hard as rocks. If you see that place run from it, very bad, when we were done with food waitress asked how was food ofc waiting for positive feedback as usual, we said it was bad, the face expression was priceless, nobody apparently has ever said that to her lol. Don't go to...
Read moreIf there were an Olympic sport for ruining a meal, this place would take gold. The food tasted like it had been prepared by someone with an active grudge against flavor — limp, uninspired, and bordering on inedible. The service was equally appalling, a masterclass in how to make guests feel unwelcome, with the charm and warmth of a malfunctioning vending machine. The atmosphere? Imagine eating in a damp basement that’s just been fumigated, but less inviting.
I would rather eat cold canned beans in my kitchen than spend another minute or Euro here. At least the beans wouldn’t glare at me while they’re...
