I recently dined at L'Elan with a group of eight and had an extremely disappointing experience. We wanted to try the fondue and, being newcomers to the dish, asked young waitress if we could order portions for four instead of eight. She assured us that this was perfectly fine.
However, when the bill arrived, we were charged for eight portions of fondue. Despite our initial request and her confirmation, the waitress denied any misunderstanding and failed to offer an apology.
The issue was that we had specifically asked for four and the waitress had agreed. She then pretended not to understand, failed to apologise and denied her earlier statement.
Additionally, the staff's limited English proficiency and poor customer service were evident. At one point, a French guest verbally assaulted us and the restaurant staff did nothing to intervene, allowing their guest to shout and insult us.
In summary, the problem wasn't the cost of the fondue but the miscommunication and lack of accountability from the staff. If the waitress acknowledged her mistake and apologised, the situation would have been acceptable.
I strongly advise to avoid this restaurant as you can expect better and more courteous service elsewhere with a respectful atmosphere.
This experience was one of the worst dinners at the restaurant...
Read moreWe were 8 people and asked to order fondue for 4 people for sharing and the waitress said that’s fine - we even triple checked with her since her English was not so good and she said yes, that’s okay. When we got the bill, there was fondue for 8, which we refused to pay as that is not what we ordered. The waitress said that we have to pay since we were 8 people and we got fondue for 8 and ate all of it. The whole thing escalated into a screaming match and we ended up paying for 6 to avoid further issues. Terrible experience and service, I would not recommend this to anyone.
Edit after the owner’s response: Still even after days have passed, they refuse to acknowledge their mistake. So what if we ate everything? Do you not eat everything you order at a restaurant?
We ordered fondue for 4, triple checked if that is okay and you brought two pots of fondue. How could we have known that it was a portion for 8? Nobody told us until we received the bill.
We still paid for more than we ordered and another guest had verbally assaulted us in your restaurant. Not a single apology from your side....
Read moreThis was the WORST experience in a restaurant I have EVER had! After ordering fondue for 4 people they gave us receipt for 8 people and then convinced us that it is neccesary to pay for 8 Because they brought for 8 (even though we ordered for 4 and confirmed this with the waitress multiple times). Usually, If I havent asked 3 times is it possible to take for 4 people and share, and got A CONFIRMATION FROM THE WAITRESS i wouldnt make a problem, but this is not acceptable.
+In the discussion with the waitress, a guest from the other table started to jell at us and threten us, being very agressive - nobody seemed to care about this agressive approach
+even though we had a reservation, waiting time was over an HOUR for - Fondue!
Very sad and dissapointed in the service and people...
