Au Pied D Cheval — Restaurant in Saint-Malo

Au Pied D'Cheval in Cancale, located along the boulevard, offers an inviting experience with its terrace adorned with large baskets of oysters that beckon you to take a seat. The restaurant gets its name from the impressive "au pied d'cheval" oyster variety, adding a unique touch to the ambiance. We had the pleasure of savoring some delicious creuses alongside a ½ bottle of Menetou Salon wine.

The service was friendly and welcoming, and the sunny terrace provided a delightful setting for enjoying a glass of wine and oysters. We loved this place! We wanted oysters (since Cancale is the oyster capital of France) and Au Pied d'Cheval was an excellent choice. We were thrilled by the choice and the prices. But mostly by the taste. I have never tasted oysters quite as delicious as these Brittany oysters. Most in our party agreed. Our party of 6 must have eaten about 10 dozen.

A few of us tried the fish soup based on recommendations. I found that pretty tasty too.

Not a lot of English spoken here, but we either spoke enough bad French or they understood enough English for us to make our way through...

Food was tasty BUT!!! Langoustine were decomposing from overcooking?? Never seen that before. 20% of oyster covered in broken shell fragments from how they open them? spider crab legs mostly dry, bread was old. Service was fine and bathroom was clean. Price was good if it was fresh but for the quality we got it was expensive. Unfortunately suffered from a bit of indigestion and diarrhea... Ive lived a number of years around Asia and have never been sick from seafood even if its street vender. You have no excuse with a good location like that to not have...
