To celebrate our 27th anniversary we decided to make reservations at L'Alsace A Kay. We arrived at 7pm, a very nice gentleman welcomed us and brought us upstairs to the restaurant. It is quaint, quiet, clean, simple. Has a great view. We were seated initially in a comfortable seated area to look upon the water and have a drink. Once our food came we were moved to a table. We ordered the escargot appetizer, a veal dish and foie gras. So one appetizer and two meals. I did ask about the potatoes pancakes but I did not order them. We have Google Translate on our phone, so it was quite clear as to what we ordered. Oh and we ordered one bottle of wine. We received the escargot and potato pancakes ( which we did not order). When the potato pancakes arrived I accepted them and just figured since we were foreigners I'd just pay for them. They were very well prepared as was the escargot. Next my wife received her meal and an empty plate was placed in front of me. I just assumed that my foie gras entree would be arriving shortly. My wife's meal was excellent. When she was done and I had not received my meal I headed downstairs. At the same time the waitress was coming upstairs. I asked her if I was going to get my meal. She told me there was not any foie gras. She didn't offer for me to order anything else. Just said no foie gras. Obviously my response to her was 'when where you going to tell me'. All of this was done through Google Translate. There was no language issues at all. She just left after this exchange My wife and I looked at other in shock I sat for a minute and then headed downstairs again. As I did, a plate with foie gras terrine arrived at my table. I didn't order a terrine. So again I headed downstairs. I informed the owner that I didn't order the potatoes pancakes but just accepted them assuming it was a language barrier. But again I did use Google translate. But when I told him I ordered the Foie Gras entree and not a terrine he told me I was wrong. Instead of arguing I ate the meal, paid the bill but left upset that what should have been a great night was very frustrating. He apologized as we left. I just wonder if I had not asked where my meal was if they would have brought me any food. I can say that even if I lived in St Pierre I would not return to...
Read moreSuper nice. We checked into Martinique whilst on our Catamaran. Easy to do on computer. No English in this town. We walked the town from one end to other on Monday, looked like it was a holiday or everything was closed on Mondays.
Came back to have lunch upstairs, super busy, our host did her best to accommodate us. Couldn't understand menu but at back there was some German dishes so we ordered them. The food was timely and was okay, I should have had the pork hock, it looked very good braised. Instead I had the Vol a Vent it was a 4/10.
Patronage this venue as she did not charge us for...
Read moreProbably the last thing I was expecting in St Pierre was a restaurant featuring Alsatian cuisine in the Caribbean! But Martinique is French territory after all, so I guess it's not entirely unexpected... The portions were generous, the beer was cold and refreshing and the air-conditioning was very welcome. We were served by the owner, who really looked after us....
