Au Petit Creux — Restaurant in Sartène

Surprise and delight. What a wonderful dining experience. Great, homemade, fresh food and a wonderful warm welcome -- a bit like being a guest in a friend's home. Food first. Very good pizza -- thin crust, fresh local ingredients, delightful crust. Exceptional kebabs and sausages grilled over an open wood fire in the dining room. Complex food, no. Simple and delicious, yes and yes.

A family place. The grand-father chats and greets the locals as they wander by the established, the adult son greets the guests and is the main server (full of warm personality) and the wife runs the kitchen. Pride. Love. You feel it in the food.

And when we made a special request for some extras like hot sauce and jam to go with the cheese plate, we were met with a smile of joy. Hot sauce, yes, two types medium and extra hot, both home made, secret family recipe. Yum. The extra not for faint of heart but packed with fantastic flavor -- chilis, ginger, heat. The jam -- or more like confit - also homemade and delightful.

Note that this place is a little ways away from the main strip of the Bonafacio Waterfront. A short walk but just long enough for it to be outside of the tourist...

We found this place by chance and wow! We were indeed very lucky!! This restaurant has amazing pizza! Approved by my partner who is always picky about his pizza. And for me, to my delight, they have my favourite of all time, Magret de Canard (Duck breast)!! Perfectly cooked, with the amazing charred taste! Even the homemade frites (French fries) is delicious!! I seldom leave a review for restaurants during my travel, but this restaurant is such a delight! Owner, Olivier is very welcoming! And the restaurant is a very cosy and authentic! Price is very reasonable for Bonifacio! The desserts are homemade so they do not have a menu, don’t be shy to ask what they have...

Clienti italiane, il titolare non era molto entusiasta, ordiniamo e subito dopo di noi entrano 4 francesi ai quali prontamente ha servito da bere, mentre noi, avendo ordinato prima, abbiamo dovuto aspettare. Ordiniamo una pizza e un brochette de boeuf, che alla carta costava 14 euro un pezzo mentre 26 € due pezzi. Arriva al tavolo una bistecchina, niente di che! Non mi lamento perché penso di aver sbagliato io ordinando, visto che la brochette de boeuf dovrebbe essere uno spiedino. Al momento del conto, leggo brochette de boeuf €26, al chè chiedo spiegazioni al titolare che mi dice che ho mangiato un entrecote ma nel conto c’era scritto brochette! L’entrecote è il controfiletto del manzo e non ce lo spiega l’oste di questo locale, il suo disagio è palese al momento di chiedere spiegazioni su ciò che avevo mangiato ma che non corrispondeva con quanto scritto sullo scontrino(proforma). Saldo il conto e vado via. Essere italiani non vuol dire essere...
