El Pasto — Restaurant in Berlin

Staff were nice, atmosphere was OK (but I can see it being nice on a summer afternoon sitting outside for drinks), the food however was a real let down. Very under spiced and unimpressive (and I don't mean Chilli ,which there was no heat, and that I can at least understand with a mostly German clientele). Lots of cheese, but that doesn't substitute for lack of flavour in the rest of the dish. Overall, a very disappointing meal for us. We left hungry without eating most of it, and won't be returning...... I shall continue my quest for good Mexican food in Berlin however!

EDIT: My partner and I spent the whole evening quite unwell after this meal and are still not well this morning (we tried each others dishes, and I had less of one of the dishes than they did and felt less unwell fortunately) As I sit here with stomach cramps still 24 hours later I am very thankful we didn't...

I think the common guests here are just a couple of years from retirement or ten years past and they come here to enjoy the excellent sunny terrace and a few drinks with their friends. The drinks are a bit expensive, but these old timers are not here to get hammered. If you are looking for a taco, or a burrito or anything Mexican, steer elsewhere. The food is at least not stale, and the floor staff are doing their best, but taste-wise my burrito was comparable to a ready-meal for 3 euros that you can heat up in a microwave.The menu with over 40 dishes is a dead-giveaway. I'm guessing the over cooked ground-beef-goulash-stew that was in my soggy tortilla shell is a key component in most of these dishes, along with a basic bean stew. Just guessing though, because this was probably the first and last time here for this...

Another pseudo-Mexican restaurant. The food is eatable but it has nothing to do with Mexican food. The cooks don't even try. My vegetarian burrito could have come from a Lebanese restaurant - I would not have been able to tell the difference. The ambiente is nice indoors and outdoors and the service is friendly and attentive but it can't wash away the food experience. None of the meals had lime or cilantro. Bean sauce was super-salty because salt was added as natural preservative. Why feta cheese was used on top - I don't know. And the side salad with dressing - any fast food chain makes slightly better...
