Arrived here around 8pm on a Friday night, restaurant is mostly full of diners but we didn't have to wait to get a table.
Ordering was a bit confusing, we waited for menus only to realise we would need to order on our phone using the QR code and designated table number, plus payment upfront.
Food arrived relatively quick, both mains and starters at the same time, and oh boy was the main course yummy! Hearty, wholesome, full of flavour. We ordered "Lamm Bamia" and "Lamm Sanouna" and the mixed starter. Lamb dishes came with the Moulawah bread. The mains are deceivingly filling, honestly I think two people could have shared a single dish. We couldn't finish it and ended up asking for takeaway boxes.
Then starter was meh. Only the hummus was delicious. We also had the yemeni tea - I find it both smooth and soothing to drink. No bitterness which one might expect from black tea.
The atmosphere has a canteeny feel - they could do better with cleaning the tables as soon as diners leave. I found my seat still had rice on it when I arrived.
Would I come back again? Yep! But next time I would just order one main to share...
Read moreWent to this place to get takeaway on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The place was relatively busy but the staff was still courteous. We ordered two meals (both chicken and rice), hummus, and bread. The price is very fair. For around 12 euros you can get a chicken meal that can easily feed two people. It’s mostly rice, but also contains a half chicken, so for the price, I don’t think any other spot in Berlin can beat the satiety/price ratio. It was well spiced and tasted good. A solid B+ in the taste department of the main dish for sure. The bread was also very good and cheap for 1.6 euros. It is baked on the spot, was fresh, and soft. The hummus on the other hand was mediocre at best. As someone who grew up in the Levant, I was really underwhelmed by it so you can skip it in my humble opinion. As previously mentioned, service was really good especially considering how busy the place was: our order was ready in close to ten minutes. Packaging for take away was also really good: black plastic boxes, air tight seal so as to not leak, decent bag, etc. In short highly recommended, especially if you’re hungry and...
Read moreThe flavors of the food are authentic and aromatic providing a wonderful mix of the notes that one enjoys from this region of the world. The portions are large and great for sharing - depending on what you order you may struggle to finish it. The Mandy Chicken in particular is delicious with a large portion of seasoned rice and smokey baked chicken.
Service is okay. The style of the restaurant is hands off which may or may not be preferred. You can order at the register or via the website and then the food is brought to your table. Fortunately the turnaround time after ordering is quite quick so you won't be waiting long.
The atmosphere is closer to that of a family restaurant that's overly open. There are some areas where you can eat in a traditional style, sitting on cushions with other people. However, if you're at a regular table it will feel a little cafeteria-like in that it's rows of open tables with no dining privacy or delineation.
Overall, I highly recommend this place. I hope that they evolve it more into a place with more of the usual restaurant amenities that one can expect from other...
