Worst kind of retro: the indoor smoking space and demagoguery. Some things should be left in the trash heap of history. And what is with the prohibition on photography? For all the spouting of leftist liberalism, they discriminate against photographers? Since photography is my art, I feel discriminated against as an artist. If I draw, and I draw the people and place around me, I wouldn't be told not to do it. This is very similar. Update: asked the owner about this and he gave every excuse in the book that anyone who pushes a discriminatory policy makes. Even though they claim to be a leftist bar, it is anything but that. It holds onto an outdated 'leftist' belief in Germany that has already turned out to be so far in the right that it is outright racist at this point. It is situated in one of the most multicultural location of Berlin, and this place holds shockingly racist worldview that dehumanizes people of color and the residents of the neighborhood. As a leftist person of color myself, I have been thoroughly shocked by their behavior and 'values'. I hope they will at some point come to their senses and start seeing all humans as equal, instead of having superior sense of one...

It is tragic that Syndikat was forced to close.

This was a deeply special place, to us, and in the world. That it existed was emblematic of why Berlin is special. Corporate organized forced gentrification will destroy all the things I love most in the world, including my beloved Berlin. We are literally choked up right now and grieving like for a friend.
