The Leo's restaurant was an interesting experience... The location is decorated very pretty, detailed oriented and for the "majority" of locations in Harz (very rustical and the majority offering what is called "Hausmannskost" - big portions and food as by granny on Sunday) very modern and upscaled. We decided very spontaneous to give it a try (I was really wanting to test some haute cuisine in the surroundings and the Leo's ads were very promising on these regards) and reserved a table on the go. The online reservation worked very simple and excellent over Google. As mentioned before, the points reservation and location fine and enjoyable. The food was though... difficult to rate. They have interesting combinations (fusion) which I was really looking for, but then, failed in some "basics". I had the 4 course menu (since I wanted to try everything thoroughly), and my partner à la carte 3 course. There is no bread and no "amuse bouche" by Leo's (or at least we didn't get any), what it's strange for a restaurant going for certain category. You can order bread (what we did for the cheese plate, since they only served it with some small, thin slices of fruit bread) but you are not asked at the beginning if you want some. Neither we got any food recommendations or asked for any wine wishes with the food... I had to ask extra, if I could have some red wine with my main. About my menu: Tatami of Angus with truffle slices, wild salad and hazelnut vinaigrette was very good. Pumpkin-Miso soup was a bit disappointing. It missed deepness and taste. Surf and turf consisted of 1 small shrimp (very well prepared) and 2 small pieces of deer filet, which unfortunately were cooked to long and were not only barely pink but hard... the "sauces" with it were... well, not really " worth a mention". The lemony dessert had 1 really spectacular Thai basil sorbet (Bravo!) and a very boring, hard (very!), lemon tart. My partner had: the smoky mozzarella toast (delicious!). And here, and for the cheese were we order the extra bread: excellent sour-dough bread! I would buy it even extra, if they sell it "to go"! The Angus filet, which was tender but still had a couple of tendons (small and disappointing). The cheese plate - which was ok (good variation), but had no "regular" bread with it and had to be order extra. My personal opinion: for the price class and aspirations, they still have some homework to do. Some excellent things but at the same time "beginners" mistakes, which for this category...

Very cozy interier and atmosphere. Bread with butter outstanding. Beef tartar good, but there were too many ingredients (red sauce gel and pesto were unnecessary). Pastinak soup with ravioli very good. Veal steak with cheese and vegetable very tasty, I would appreciate more attention to vegetable - asparagus was completely dead and grey. Chicken “tikka” was a mockery of Indian cuisine - thai like sauce, overcooked chicken, uneatable naan. Please remove this thing from the menu. Banana creme brulee with mars ice cream - ok. Too sweet for me, I would skip the ice cream a add more sour strawberries. Price would be ok, if all meals were perfect, but like this. I would suggest to focus on local culinary craft - bread, meat, vegetable,...
