Haus Unkelbach — Restaurant in Cologne

We just wanted to have some food and drinks as 3 people, we were literally not allowed inside -to be more clear we got very rudely fired. There was plenty of tables free, but the waitress meant they are reserved and inside room is closed and the tables that are free wont be able to be opened, which is totally ridicilous and unreasonable. Later on an old german couple walked in and they were set immidiately. After i saw that i walked in again to ask the waiter if we can also put a chair to the 2-tables and wait for another table to be free, while i was talking to the waiter -the first waitress (black long haired young woman) i talked too said to the waiter " They are trying to walk inside again, take them out". And i was shocked, truly shocked.... Afterall i dont know why this behaviour was; was it because we were not germans or because the woman just hates her job... either case, it is unacceptable. Good traditional brewery house in cologne. Not as touristy as the ones close the cathedral and quite easily reachable from the city center. Service was fast, friendly and attentive

They have two vegan dishes (a few more vegetarian ones), we tried both and both are good, I really liked the spinach knoedel with tomato and eggplant ragout. The maultaschen was also good (they are served on salad) but the spinach was more special for me and refined.

Prices are on the upper side regarding food (we paid around 15 € for the mains) and the vegan portions could be slightly larger but it's worth a try, seemingly traditional food. No vegan desserts.

They also serve non-alcoholic beverages, one kölsch (früh).

Actually I recommend it for people who want to eat at a brewery and want vegan (or vegetarian) options. Atmosphere is lively and busy as you can exp expect...

Disappointing. There were no servers for a good 10 minutes after having seated ourselves. But once our orders were taken food and drinks arrived quickly. Phew, I thought, review saved. But then the Schweinshaxe arrived and it got worse. It was one of the driest, most overcooked pork knuckles I've ever had to this day. The skin was charred black and the fat layer had turned into rubber. No enjoyment to be had! The potatoes were also not very crisp and the salad was small. So in the end I paid 20€ to get full on a dry piece of meat. A real shame as I'd always wanted to try this place. Maybe the other dishes are fine, but I don't know if I want to come back. Enter...
