川香巴蜀 Li's Kitchen — Restaurant in Darmstadt-Mitte

After watching a movie in a nearby cinema with my daughters we were hungry and wanted to eat something nice. One of my daughters said that this restaurant has a high rating in Google maps, so we opted for this rather shabby restaurant. As usual I ordered crispy duck with vegetables while one of my daughters ordered a soup and the other dumplings. Before entering the restaurant I asked the non-Chinese waitress whether we could pay with card as I didn't have enough cash with me and the answer was "of course". What followed was one of the worst culinary experiences I have ever had. My crispy duck was not crispy at all, and the rice and the meat was in a large plate having some kind of soup with a lot of water and little vegetables. The taste of the food was for me 3 out of 10. My daughter who ordered the soup said the soup was average while my other daughter didn't touch the dumplings after having a single bite. As I wanted to pay with the card, a Chinese lady, who was seemingly the owner, said that they could not accept the card payment since their POS machine was not working, forcing me to find an ATM outside when it was...

We’ve been to Manjing Haus probably 6 times in 2 years. The place is simple and homey. The food is consistently excellent. Definitely our favorite Chinese restaurant in Darmstadt.

There are two menus: one is a trifold with typical Westernized dishes, and the other is a bigger booklet with more exotic and authentic Szechuan choices. I recommend the latter. I've been there multiple times, and I usually pay with my EC card. The same lady was there, and when I told her I wanted to pay with my EC card, she insisted on seeing my card!
