Let's get the ugly stuff out of the way first. The host showing us to our table was incredibly rude, when he didn't find our reservation in their books, he asked my mother if she made the reservation via phone call - just to mock her after she confirmed that she did. Seemingly they don't even operate their phone line anymore, he just asked to call her bluff, or whatever he tried to do. Turned out, she didn't call, but reserved a table online and didn't remember exactly how she went about it, so she defaulted to telling him that she called. After presenting the booking confirmation we were finally let in.
I can't properly disconnect the waiting service from the bad impression the first guy made on me, so I'll refrain from rating that.
The food came quickly after ordering and was not only tasty looking, but also obviously fresh and hot. Whilst the burgers we're pretty good, I was disappointed to find out that the vegetarian option relied on a patty made of what seemed to be beans and potatoes. That in itself isn't inherently a problem, I tend to find these patties quite enjoyable, but the nature of the vegetarian patty wasn't communicated at all on the menu. That usually leaves me expecting a 'fake' meat patty that closely emulates the sensation of a regular burger. Adding to that was that the portion size was rather small, too small for 15ā¬, I'd say. The menu said, that each burger came with fries and a side salad, but whether me nor my girlfriend got any salad on the side. I heard that the fish and chips and flammkuchen were delicious and pretty sizeable though, so maybe we just rolled unlucky on our order.
This Pub has a bunch of beers on tap, ranging from german beers to calm the locals over at least two kinds of guinnes and many more ales and lagers, they also sport quite the selection of bottled beers and ciders. They were heavily promoting the hop house 13 guinness, and i gotta say, it's quite enjoyable!
We we're visiting on a friday, but at least 2 hours before most people rolled in. The atmosphere was busy, but in a comforting way. Overall, this is a good place to kick back and have some beers with friends, would not necessarily recommend it for eating out with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA few minutes ago, we visited this place around 10 PM as we were craving dessert. They have a really nice brown bread ice cream that we enjoy. When a staff member approached to take our order, we mentioned the ice cream, but he told us the kitchen was closed. Up until that point, the interaction was fine.
However, what followed was completely unnecessary and rude ā he remarked, āCome on, man, you come to an Irish pub and ask for ice cream? Is that what you come here for?ā That comment was uncalled for and quite insensitive, especially towards regular customers like us who have been coming here for over four years. Isnāt it legal to have ice cream on pubs!! And why do they have the desserts section then?!
If the kitchen is closed, we understand! Itās disappointing how one serverās attitude can change the entire experience. Very disrespectful and not something we expected from a place weāve supported...
