Henscheid — Restaurant in Frankfurt

So I've only been a few times to this restaurant, it doesn't look very inviting and is a very rustic atmosphere, and it's not the most comfortable seating area. However last night my wife and I wanted some German food so we decided to try it again because every time we were there the food was good. I have noticed over the years that the menu has always changing dishes, simple but well thought out. Last night we had a goats cheese-date quiche with walnuts and a beautifully mixed green salad, there was also a kind of dried tomato pesto or relish which suited the quiche very well, then we had a schnitzel with Frankfurt fresh cut lawn trimmings it's called Frankfurt green sauce taste kinda like mowed lawn. But you could taste at the schnitzel was freshly prepared so was the green sauce and freshly cooked eggs. On the way to the bathroom I met the cook and gave him a compliment on the food, about five minutes later he was standing at our table with a freshly braised calf cheek for us to try on the house, this piece of meat just melted on your tongue. So we will be back more often now and can only recommend if you want a good tasting rustic classic German meal visit this place....

We visited this nice little German restaurant for dinner after we were disappointed at some other place the day before. The Henscheid is famous for 'junge Frankfurter Kuche, Satire and Schnaps' - and we were thrilled by all of it! It's a well-run spot, but has a warm and cosy atmosphere thats great in a cold winter night. We were received even though we had no reservation, the staff were clearly busy, but english speaking, professional and polite. We had yummy veal Schnitzel with Frankfurter Grune Sosse, delicious baked apple desserts afterwards. We even tried the fresh local beer and outstanding Hazel Schnaps. Enttäuschend... Mit der Intention mal etwas Neues auszuprobieren sind wir ins Henscheid gegangen. Leider ein Fehler...

Zum einen weil das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis völlig unangemessen ist für das was man bekommt. Im Einzelnen: wir hatten Frankfurter Schnitzel (kalb) bestellt (16,90 eur). Dazu einen Beilagensalat (3,40 eur). Beilagensalat war ein Witz, ein paar grüne Blätter und eine kleine Scheibe Tomate und eine Gurke dazu Dressing mit mega viel Knoblauch. Was vor allem nicht vorher gesagt wurde. Den kann man auch weglassen. Das Schnitzel selbst war okay- die grüne Soße jedoch ebenfalls voll Knoblauch und auch das stand nirgends und man wurde nicht hingewiesen. Bratkartoffeln waren ungewürzt. Aber bei der Batterie Knoblauch in der Sauce auch egal. Die Speisekarte gibt kaum Alternativen her - nur wenige Gerichte angeboten. Sehr komisch.

Die Bedienung war mehr als unfreundlich als wir ihr auf Nachfrage wie das essen geschmeckt hat sagten, dass alles nur nach Knoblauch schmeckte und es für sie Zukunft besser wäre wenn man es in die Karte schreiben würde. Daraufhin wurde uns entgegnet, dass sich ja noch nie jemand darüber beschwert hätte und zur Krönung bekamen wir unaufgefordert umgehend die Rechnung vorgelegt. Ein glatter Rausschmiss.
