I went based on a friends recommendation. I had Usuzukuri, some nigiri, yakitori and Gyoza. Main reason for the visit was to have delicious sushi. Here I was underwhelmed.
The rice was great in consistency, taste and quantity. The fish was too cold to deliver any significant taste. The issue of the fish temperature applied to the nigiri and the sashimi. Quality of the fish was presumably ok. In my tako nigiri there was a chizo leaf built in. For my taste way too strong a flavor to complement the tako. My otoro handroll was good. Good quality nori and the temperature issue a bit less severe also due to the chopping of the fish (more surface). The usuzukuri was covered in mayonnaise. I never saw that and I definitely can say, it isn’t for me.
The place is nice and quaint. The door opens directly into the dining area resulting in frost chills every time a patron comes or goes.
The place doesn’t offer a oshibori hand towel. I appreciate that as a nice gesture before a dinner and believe it ought to be part of the experience in this process segment.
Might try again one day to see if it was...
Read moreI ordered sushi moriawase from tuna and a normal sushi moriawasa. Also gyoza , horenso, Saba Sushi and ume- shiso maki.
Sadly none of the fish was good and I expect it to be better for the price they charge.
Cutting technique was sloppy and not right for sashimi specifically the Ika and the otoro and maguro was inedible some prices and in general unpleasant to eat.
Specifically the Tuna was very bad. Not properly unfrosted and had a lot of connectiv tissue .So very unpleasant to eat.
The sushi was all frozen fish what I kinda understand but the Saba wasn't greatly marinated and the Saba Sushi was very boring and unloving. Other sashimi pieces didn't taste great as well. Some if didn't eat.
Prices are high and I don't mind but at least there has to be basic skill and quality.
I ordered in the pandemic and maybe because it's for home they don't care as much but the prices are the same as eating in the restaurant and I only had the cheapest fish on my moriawase sashimi.
I am just sad and I feel a bit ripped off. Good luck and bye.
Only passable thing was the...
Read moreThe Japanese restaurant Fujiwara in Bockenheim, the centre of Frankfurt, is in the midst of a urban living quarter. This small and very cosy furnished restaurant feels more like being at a friends place for dinner. You always need a reservation! Start the evening with their small starters, they call them Nebengerichte. All extremely fresh and masterful prepared using the best of ingredients. The tempura is superb! The fish and merry dishes are very authentic and tasty. Their flagship dishes are the nigiri sushi and the sashimi. What a treat and a tribute to the Chefs to serve the finest of raw fish at very reasonable prices. Definitely worth the trip! This is no-nonsense Japanese fare the way it is traditionally prepared and served! A very nice sake- and wine list accompanied our...
