So, we went there as we were told that was some very interesting stuff inside. We did it with Family ticket (all museums for 32 euro/2 persons, so you don't need to pay separately). There were two exhibitions of XX century German artists. The first one was presenting works of Hans Haacke, and it was quite funny, there were different machines doing something between art and magick tricks. In the introduction it was said Haacke was worried about environment etc., so the exposition was like a mockery of it. There were two artifacts producing ice which was melting immediately, as the ice was exposed to room temperature. Something like you would leave the fridge opened for weeks in July. Taking into account Germany closed all nuclear plants and the main part of energy in the south is from the coal plants, this exposition was about everything but ecology. The second exhibition was from artist Carol Rama. So basically there were some shapeless stains hanged as pictures, or other stuff like bike tubes cut and glued one next to another. In one small room (with caution that there was an erotic art there) we could see simple drawings with some sex representations, and for some reason there was also a drawing of a women in the moment of defecation. In the introduction we were informed that this artist Carol Rama treated her art as the feministic manifesto. Well, taking into account what you can see and smell on main trainstation, such manifesto is still popular and practiced by modern...
Read moreThe Schirn Is certainly one of the major exhibition halls we have in the city. It usually has two art exhibitions running parallel to each other. More recently we were able to share Niki de Saint Phalle's work, which is rarely shown worldwide, discovering her painful youth, yet undaunted creative spirit. Just before that, we had an extensive show of Marc Chagall's works on loan from major museums and rarely seen paintings on loan from multiple private collections - a privilege one seldom had in previous decades. A couple of years ago, we were blessed with an insight to Jean-Michel Basquiat's short-lived street art, whose spontaneous works paved the beginnings of the many graffiti we can discover when exploring small and major cities - everywhere. Keep a watch out for upcoming exhibitions because their programmes for adults, but also children - are surely worthy...
Read moreWe visited the Shirn Gallery to visit Niki de Saint Phalle's exhibtion. It was not so crowded and payment for the ticket went quickly. 14€/person but again as in many German museums no discount for pensioners. I wonder why I have the pensioner ID card, when I cannot even use it. The exhibition was small but well done with a wide variety of her Art and certainly worthwhile to go and visit when in Frankfurt. The exhibition is still on until 21st May 2023. There is also a free of charge audio guide which you can use. It is best to leave your coats and backs at the cloak room also free of charge and you are allowed to take your camera with you but do not...
