Paulaner Platzhirsch am Main — Restaurant in Frankfurt

22/08/2023, Revision: I had to deduct a star after todays fiasco. I arranged to meet a colleague here today to chat, have something to drink and maybe a small bite to eat. When I arrived, the waitress was telling other guests that they would have to move because there were not enough personnel to serve all tables (we’re talking about a difference of 3 meters…at most). You have to understand that this was a Tuesday, early afternoon with less than 20 patrons. The one waitress took our order and came back 2-3 times to confirm it and then her colleague came again to ask what we ordered and then the owner (?) came once again to ask what we had ordered. Finally the beverages arrived and we were told that the salad (a simple salad…nothing special) would be served soon. Shortly after we received this information, there was shouting and the sound shattering glass within. 10 minutes later, the first waitress appeared again splattered from head to foot, front to back in salad dressing, assured us that the salad would be served soon and murmured something about she would not be coming back to work tomorrow. At this point, my colleague said she no longer wanted her long awaited salad (understandably, at this point) and she just wanted to pay and go somewhere else. I agreed. The owner (?) came by again and we told him that we wished to pay to which he replied that he would tell our waitress. 5 minutes later, she arrived… not with the check but with the salad! At this point, my colleague and I just wanted to leave this circus of errors. To cut it short, my colleague ate half of the pathetic salad and we paid and left. I was so embarrassed as we had gone here at my suggestion. Never again.

09/07/2020: It's really gone downhill since the first time we were here. It really doesn't earn the title "Paulener Biergarten". Was there again today and that was definitely not a Paulaner Weißbier they served me... my guess is that it was some cheap Weißbier from Aldi or Lidl... the kind that comes in a plastic bottle! Paulaner needs to control their franchises better... this place is definitely not up to their normally...

Decided I needed to visit a biergarten which turned out to be quite the walk. It was worth it though.

A large outside garden with plenty of cover available. A traditional German food menu that had quite a lot of choice.

The waitress was patient and helpful. I had the snitzel (I said it was traditional). I didn't know what lambs lettuce was but fortunately it's just green leaves. The salad dressing was the best I've ever tasted. I asked what it was but it's a "secret". The fried potatoes were good and the meat was thin and well cooked. I had the pig (schwein) rather than the veal version.

Reasonable prices and good beer. It's definitely worth popping in if you're in that...

Schlechter Service, schlechtes Essen und sehr lange Wartezeiten. Bis uns der Kellner begrüßte vergingen sicherlich schon 15 Minuten. Ja, es war voll, aber zumindest einen freundliche, kurze Begrüßung im Vorbeigehen wäre schon schön gewesen. Nach Bestellung haben wir dann auch noch mal 20 Minuten auf Getränke gewartet. Bestellt wurden 1 Radler und 1 Bier. Es kamen 2 Bier, beide schal und abgestanden. Bei Bestellung des Essens erwähnte der Kellner, dass das Essen dauern könnte. So waren es dann 1,5 Stunden bis das Essen kam. Das ist nicht schön, aber hinnehmbar -WENN, in der Zwischenzeit vielleicht noch mal nach Getränken gefragt werden würde. So saßen wir dann 1 Stunde vor leeren Gläsern. Als das Essen kam, war die Enttäuschung groß. Das Schnitzel für immerhin 25 Euro kam winzig daher und mit einer handvoll Bratkartoffeln. Beides unangenehm fettig, dafür ungewürzt. Ein Teil der Bestellung wurde dann auch noch vergessen. Bei dem Hinweis darauf, antwortete der Kellner, dass der Rest schnell gebracht werden würde. Das dauerte noch mal 10 Minuten. Bis dahin war mein Partmer fertig mit essen. Es wurde auch wieder nicht gefragt, ob es noch was zu trinken sein darf oder ob es schmecke. Die Rechnung kam dafür sehr zügig. Als wir freundlich auf das wirklich nicht gute Essen hingewiesen haben, war die Antwort, dass kann er ja vorher nicht wissen, weil er das Essen ja schließlich nicht vorher probieren würde. Und kein Wort der Entschuldigung. Fazit: 60...
