I'd like to start off by giving props to this restaurant for saving us in a situation where we hadn't eaten due to complications coming there with the S-Bahn. Our visit was a couple months ago but due to the aforementioned issues we experienced I hadn't thought about writing a review previously to now.
Quick background, I, as well as my parents, are well oriented regarding Greek restaurants and greek food. As well as this, my father is an ambulant wheelchair user who obviously appreciates some accessibility so there will be a scope set on how his experience felt. We came as a party of 4.
Ariston is a restaurant who's location used to be occupied by an Asian orientated restaurant that's I personally never cared for. Being sat on top of the Saturn electronics store, it is in a prime position regarding people who would be in Freising for shopping, leisure or even on a visit. It is, however, best accessed with the help of a car due to the uncertainty of proper sidewalks being maintained on the way. We came with a car, so I personally find that this is not a large issue, yet anyone in my dad's shoes might see this as a little deterrent if you are bound to the public service.
Approaching the restaurant, we came around evening time (7-8 from what I remember) so we had the dinner service. The parking lot was full at the time of arrival due to Ariston being a local success, yet it did give us many parking options that worked out for out situation. The doorway and entrance is quite large and let us pass by a group of patrons with no problem or squeezing through. The reception we received from the hosts was very warm, with him seating us quickly and without much issue or anything regarding the wheelchair being an obstacle. The seating inside includes many continuous benches which were very comfortable, as well as very clean. The tables around the front and center windows that wrap around the far side of the building are quite romantic in setting and would be perfect for a date night or a small meeting between friends. The restaurant was quite nice for both the purposes of a younger as well as an older patronage, allowing it to be a nice experience across generations.
We ordered a appetizer platter and I chose a Chris Platter as a main, as well as Tzatziki, a serving of olives and some pita bread for the table. My father ordered the Gyro Pasta, which I also tried. I do recall absolutely no complaints from the table. I personally found that there was a nice feel of authenticity from the food, everything came in due time, warm and with generous portions that made the price worth every penny. I found as well that they had a very good varied selection of drinks, opting for a Helles and a long drink to follow. Prices regarding alcoholic drinks were in quite fair for how the food was priced and they didn't make us break the bank for sure.
The bathrooms were quite good lacking some accessibility for wheelchair bound patrons, yet opting to add more privacy in the men's bathrooms which does allow someone to go in with some assistance.
I am very happy with our visit to this restaurant and hope to come again on my visit e...
Read moreThe restaurant used to offer much tastier food. The grilled squid was inedible. It was so tough that it couldn’t be chewed. Along with the squid, rice was served as a side dish, which was dry and barely edible. I'm really disappointed because I expected much more. Two friends had gyros, which was too salty. For the others at the table, the food was tasty. The service was satisfactory.
I don't know why, but one restroom was used by both...
