Café Cortés Göttingen — Restaurant in Göttingen

Really wanted to try this place as they are the best rated place in Göttingen. I can only say cakes were good. It is definitely worth grabbing a bite to go 4/5 for the cakes. Our experience eating there was horrible. I would never go there again. There were not many people and I was with a 4 year old and grandma. I ordered a soup for the child and cakes for everyone. The soup took 30 minutes to arrive because the waitress forgot about it. It arrived cold and was not very tasty. We waited (and the child was very well behaved) 30 minutes with the cakes on the table for this soup to arrive as I had asked the child to eat soup first. And the wait was for nothing as the soup was horrible. We were offered macarons as compensation which I declined as they cannot give me back my time and frustration. The atmosphere is ok but does not inspire...

In diesem Sommer waren wir aus familiären Gründen sehr häufig in Göttingen und wir besuchen sehr gerne Cafes. Nach einigen gemischten Erfahrungen in der Stadt fanden wir dann durch Zufall Cafe Cortes. Meine Frau ging sofort hinein und war über die sehr große Auswahl an Kuchen begeistert und fand auch mehrere vegane Sorten. Draußen auf der kleinen Terrasse war noch ein Tisch frei und wir entschieden uns, hier zu bleiben. Das Personal ist freundlich, jedoch sehr langsam. Darauf angesprochen meinte der junge Mann, dass dies die Qualität steigert. Er sollte Recht behalten. Kaffee und Kuchen werden gemeinsam serviert und zum Kaffee wird noch ein Glas Wasser gereicht. Die Kaffeesahne ist vorgewärmt, der Kuchen wird aufrecht stehend gereicht und die Kuchengabel steckt seitlich leicht im Kuchen, so das sie nicht vom Teller fällt. Diesen Stil habe ich seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr erlebt. Seitdem müssen wir nur noch Montags ein anderes Kaffee besuchen, da haben sie geschlossen. Alle Kuchen haben immer hervorragend geschmeckt. Lediglich die heiße Schokolade hat zu viel Schaum und zu wenig Milch. Darauf angesprochen, hat der junge Mann dann den Schaum abgeschöpft und mit zusätzlicher Milch noch einmal erhitzt. Im Dezember sind wir wieder in Göttingen und hoffen, das Cafe Cortes...

The atmosphere is just lovely. We could sit there the whole day. Right in the center. We ordered Americano, cappuccino with oat milk and blueberry cheesecake (Käse Blaubeer). All of them were delicious. Americano could have been served hotter but it may be a cultural thing. So, if you like your coffee hot, I recommend asking extra hot when ordering. We paid 10 Euros in total...
