Having dined at numerous Michelin starred restaurants around the world, my spouse and I agree that this place is not worthy of a Michelin star. The kitchen is severely understaffed (or are they? Because we saw 3 of them taking a lengthy smoke break outside.) We arrived at 6pm when the restaurant just opened, everything was served at a good pace while we were the only customers. But then we had to wait 20 minutes for dessert and then another 30 mins for the small “fine patisserie” (look at pictures, cannot believe we had to wait that long for it, it’s obvious they forgot about us), and then another 25 minutes waiting for their one and only payment terminal to work, which ended up with us driving to the nearest ATM to take out cash and returning to pay them. The server was apologetic but not the restaurant owners. We got no apology or a free gift or even any words of acknowledgement for the inconvenience.
The dishes were ok, some better than others. The steak was over cooked, the tuna was the best, the others were just OK. We also got the worst cold hard bread we have EVER been served at a Michelin starred restaurant. In addition, one of the dishes wasn’t explained to us. BThe waiters were too busy, there were only 2 of them serving everyone. At the end we spent 3 hours and 15 minutes for a 5-course meal… which was the same amount of time it took for 18-25 course tasting menus at the three different Michelin starred restaurants we dined in Spain last week.
I hope Gasthof Krone is not indicative of what a Michelin starred restaurant would be in Germany. One thing we know for sure is we will...
Read moreI only rate it one star because they don’t live up to Michelin 1 star.
They are understaffed: There were 2 servers, ours was friendly and explained all dishes as expected, but his colleague didn't. While we were the only customers at the restaurant waiting times between courses were ok, once the restaurant was at about 50% capacity we had to wait 20 and 30 min between courses.
Food is just ok, meat was overcooked, bread was not fresh. Presentation and plating were good, but the dishes were nothing memorable. Both my wife's and my steak were overcooked, something I've never experienced at a Michelin star restaurant.
The bread was well plated but not fresh, probably from the lunch service, and was served with very little butter. I always look forward to the bread at French cuisine restaurants, and this was quite bad in comparison to even some non Michelin places. Disappointing.
Petit fours or Pattisseries as they call them were uninspiring and unremarkable. I would have left without trying them if I knew I'd have to wait 30 min for a chocolate and a cake piece that didn't Seem fresh.
Also had issues paying with credit card.
Not worthy of the Michelin star, I think management...
