Plaka — Restaurant in Gilching

OK, we've been coming here for years (and to their previous location in Gauting before that) and I'm finally getting around to posting a Google review (I know, I'm lazy).

Firstly, the staff are super friendly, super efficient and super super. They always arrange to find us a table without reservations (yes, we already established that I'm lazy).

Secondly, the food is exceptional. I cannot praise their gyros enough - we've been "everywhere" including Greece (and their neighbor to the east - and forget about the US and much of northern Germany) including fancy places and dives, and I never found better. The portions are large and the meat is perfectly crisped. Be sure to ask for onions on top - for some reason they stopped doing automatically about a year ago. And the fried calamari is perfect as well - most places can't get the breading and the frying time right, but Plaka is right on spot everytime.

And lastly, the prices for food and drink are extremely reasonable - even after moderately increasing their prices after COVID. My regular is gyros with pita and a glass of retsina (again, too lazy to try the other choices). We seldom pay more than 20 EUR per person, drinks and Trinkgeld included....

The food was not too bad and not as authentic as I would have liked. The food I had was good. The menu was a bit sparce for a real Greek menu. Service was good. If the Musik was more lively and Greek it would be have made the whole experience better.

Although not a very good rating from myself, I would eat there again, as it is homely like a Gasthof.

Two last things it is cash only and no cards. You can't get hard drinks here, I enjoy vodka, but they...

Geschäftsfreunde haben uns zu ihrem Lieblings-Griechen eingeladen. Leider hat es etwas geregnet und wir konnten den schönen Außenbereich nicht nutzen.

Wir sind eine Gruppe von 20-25 Personen gewesen und durften trotzdem à la carte bestellen. Die Auswahl ist groß und die Speisekarte umfasst die typischen Gerichte, die man beim Griechen erwarten darf.

Für unseren Tisch sind verschiedene Servicekräfte zuständig gewesen. A wusste nicht was B schon aufgenommen hatte und C wusste dann nicht, wer die Bestellung bekommt und D hat kaum Deutsch verstanden/gesprochen. Und insgesamt hätte ich mehr südländische Gastfreundschaft erwartet. Ich vermute aber, dass aufgrund der besonderen Situation (große Gruppe) hier auch Aushilfskräfte eingesetzt wurden.

Die Wartezeit auf die Getränke und das Essen (was ja nahezu zeitgleich serviert werden musste), war gerade noch ok.

Die verschiedenen Gerichte haben auch unterschiedliche Beurteilungen bekommen. Von sehr gut bis ok war alles dabei. Preislich und von der Größe der Portionen her alles angemessen.
