Eds is the only true Pub in Graf and surrounding areas. Many Americans don't actually know what the word 'Pub' is an abbreviation of. The word ' Pub ' is short for 'Public' ; meaning to be a verified public space it must be open to any member of the public. It doesn't just mean a place that serves grog.
When it comes to a real Pub, the word 'Exclusivity' does not apply. Those of us, privileged to have grown up in a country with authentic Pub culture, appreciate that such establishments are essential to creating community and other valuable societal and multi-cultural connections.
The management at Ed's- lead by owner ' Mama'- exemplifies this Public standard. Everyone and anyone (with a minimal dress standard- shoes, shirt etc.) is welcome at Ed's. Whether it's for a quiet drink and company, a game of pool, karaoke or dancing , Ed's is an Oasis in a desert of such establishments in the area.
Drinks are the of the best value in Graf. The bar offers a wide range of options- from decent Scotch to High-End Tequilas, Schnapps and a variety of House Cocktails. Beer is served ice- cold and of true local Bavarian quality (those people who prefer Corona or other brews are also catered for).
Eds is open six days a week (except Mon.) and is the only such local establishment open Sunday evening- another true Pub requirement (there is another place in Graf that calls itself a 'Pub'. The fact that it's closed Sunday disqualifies that title in my book...a 'Restaurant' ...or 'Caterers' maybe...but 'Pub'..? Nope.).
The Samoan-American US Army Vietnam Veteran founder Ed established an institution that created a culture of Friendliness and Inclusivity and best all, fun. What a wonderful thing that his family has continued to offer his legacy to serve the German/ American Graf...
Read moreI went to this place on a friday night and everything was going great until I walked to the second bar in the back. There was a bar tender named Kim and she would literally stare right at you without giving you any knowledge. Everytime I asked her for something she said she didn't work there but she was behind the counter so I didn't understand why she would say that but I eventually found out she was the manager. Every time I wanted a drink I would have to walk from the dance floor bar to the other one to get a drink. The two bar tenders at the first bar were amazing but after security came and said that Kim the manager didn't like me looking at her (I was trying to order a drink) i felt like maybe she thought I liked her or something but that was definitely not the case 😬. I felt very uncomfortable after that experience but the Irish bar where I went next was great and everyone...
Read moreI've been going to Ed's bar for almost 5 years now and I have to say that this is by far the best bar experience I've had in Bavaria. The bar owner and team members have always treated me and others with respect and she has always taken care of her customers. From calling cabs for drunk soldiers, civilians, and foreigners, to making sure each and every customer feels welcome. I've always felt like this bar has that family feel to it. Definitely has that...
