Pizzeria Santa Lucia II — Restaurant in Grafenwöhr

Absolutely delicious from start to finish. We went there on a Saturday evening without a reservation. It was packed and, yet, we were greeted immediately and were seated with no wait at all. (Still, for a Saturday evening, we will make a reservation next time). Our waitresses were so kind and funny. They brought our menus (English and German) and our drink order. We ordered their fresh mussels they had that day, soup and pizzas. All I can say is: WOW!! The starters came quickly and when I saw how huge my tomato soup was I didn't intend to finish it, so I still had enough room for pizza. Well, once the first drop of tomato soup hit my taste buds, there was no stopping me. I don't know what they put in this soup (definitely something cheesy too) but it was so flavorful, so tomato-y, so creamy, so cheesy... So... Perfect. I could've licked the bowl clean. It really was the first indication of how good the rest was going to be. The mixed salad was humongous and the simple dressing it came with was delectable, my husband's mussels were tender and melted in your mouth with a sauce that was to die for. Thankfully the waitress asked if he wanted some garlic bread (or normal bread) with it because this too was, oh, soooo good. Soft and chewy, garlic-y and just YUM! The pizzas... Oh my goodness. The sizes are about as big as a dinner plate (standard here and nothing to complain about), the dough was light and fluffy, it had the perfect between substance and air. It's hard to describe, you just have to bite into it. The sauce... Soooo fresh!! Not sweet like in the States (thank goodness), perfectly seasoned and plenty of it, cheese galore, mushrooms that were absolutely fresh, toppings with flavor to the roof and cooked to perfection. There was absolutely nothing to complain about. Not even a tiny thing. Except that I had wished for a bigger stomach to finish it all because the big bowl of soup came back to bite me and I had to tap out at about half my pizza. One of our waitresses saw it not long after and brought a pizza box for all of us light weights (I wasn't the only one at our table who couldn't finish). The prices were normal to almost cheap compared to other restaurants we have been to. To sum it up, from start to finish, hands down, my favorite Italian restaurant. Also zunächst kann man sagen, dass man hier für kleines Geld durchaus leicht satt werden kann - die Portionen sind wirklich gross. Darüber würde ich mich generell nicht beschweren, allerdings würde ich mir mehr Rafinesse und Qualität bei der Zubereitung wünschen. Im Folgenden einige Beispiele, die bitte als subjektives Feeback zu interpretieren sind (Geschmäcker sind ja verschieden). Die 2 Scampi-Spiessen (Vorspeise) wurden auf Salat und mit 4 Stücken Pizzabrot angerichtet. Leider lagen die Brote im Essig/Öl Dressing und waren durchgeweicht. Die Spiesse selbst waren so akkurat mit je ca. 20 Scampis bestückt, dass ich annehmen würde sie sind so gekauft worden (falls es anders ist ziehe ich die Behaupting gern zurück). Obwohl ich ein großer Verfechter von viel Käse auf Pizza bin, war man hier einfach zu großzügig damit. Dadurch hat die Pizza die gewisse Leichtigkeit verloren, die ich sonst mit italienischen Gerichten trotz deren gehaltvoller Zusammensetzung in Verbindung bringe. Hier wäre weniger mehr. Die Gerichte waren insgesamt recht spartanisch angerichtet, ohne viel Finesse oder Deko. Auch wenn ich mich strikt gegen kleine Kräutergärten oder Balsamico-Malereien auf dem Essen ausspreche, hätte man diesem Aspekt etwas mehr Aufmerksamkeit widmen können. Das Brot für die Bruschetta war schön kross und leicht warm, allerdings war das Tomaten Relish kalt als wäre es direkt aus dem Kühlschrank. Wir hatten etwas von der Pasta mit Knoblauchöl mit verpacken lassen zum mitnehmen. Leider war der Behälter nicht dicht, womit wir auf der Heimfahrt relativ viel Öl im Auto und auf der Kleidung hatten.

Das Ambiente war gemütlich mit italienischem Flair, obwohl die Karussellpferde meiner Ansicht nach nicht ins Konzept passten.

Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Die Karte ist ansprechend aufbereitet und bietet für jeden Geschmack etwas.

Mein Resümee: Es gibt für jeden Anlass das richtige Restaurant. In das Santa Lucia 2 würde ich momentan wohl eher wegen der großen Portionen zum kleinen Preis und weniger wegen des Geschmacks oder der Gerichte an sich kommen.

I had a great meal here in 2023 but with a frustrating end; I was with another couple and we were semi-chaperoning some 12/13 year old girls at another table. The kids paid and left early. At the end of our meal, the server ambushed us for payment for a meal they said was not paid for by the girls. It was awkward but we paid as Americans here are seldom to make a scene in this situation. We talked to the girls later, all of whom insisted they had paid (with each confirming other’s payment). It felt like a shakedown by the management and discouraged me...
