This location is no hidden spot but one of the nicest outdoor points around the Außenalster when you long for a nice view and a little snack. The Alsterperle is the inhabitant of a former public toilet cottage located directly at the water’s edge with enough space and green lawns around. So don’t worry if you notice a long queue at the self-service counter – it won’t take long and if you can’t get a place at the provided standing-height tables you are free to seat yourself on the public green or at the bank with your feet in the water.
They offer snacks like pea soup, sausage and bread or potato salad and beer, wine, prosecco or coffee, cake and ice cream. I like it there because it is a very uncomplicated and relaxed place if you are not bothered by a bit “see and be seen” of the Hamburger jet set. It is also a nice spot for children, because you’ll find a swing beside the cabin and enough space without speeding cars. Kids can feed swans and ducks.
Many people come here for a relaxed beer or wine after work, and in the evening you can experience the best sunset view of Außenalster.

And this is for 12 years I've been living in Hamburg: a small but very friendly place, so beautiful also in the morning for a quick coffee and a nice morning view, even when a bit colder in winter days but very cozy covered with blankets, a hot wine, nice music and..happy. Enjoy!
PS: this review I wrote it first on 2018. Now 2021 and still Alsterperle keeps its magic even in pandemic time or other personal challenges. Like a buddy 😁, a quiet one, just the wind and rain wake its silence...
Read moreOn the edge of the Außenalster, Alsterperle transforms a former public restroom into one of Hamburg’s most cherished open-air spots. With panoramic views of the lake and city skyline, it’s a favorite among joggers, locals, and visitors alike. The menu offers simple yet satisfying fare, think bratwurst, pea soup, and sandwiches paired with coffee, beer, or an Aperol Spritz. It’s the perfect place to unwind, whether you're basking in the summer sun or enjoying mulled...
