Bäckerei Körner — Restaurant in Hamburg

I usually come by in the afternoons as my toddler likes to get pastries or cookies from this bakery. There is one staff member who has always been unpleasant and unfriendly with me (no smiles, glares angrily, rude). I always thought that she was normally like that and didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.

Today, the bakery was busy and there were a couple of people ahead of us in the queue. I was surprised to see this staff member smiling and even joking with the people before me. Then, it was my turn and of course the pleasant demeanor disappeared. Sure, I didn’t want to take the cracked cookie she offered first because my toddler does not like “kaputt” cookies. And my toddler changed his mind and wanted a Hanseatic instead of the cookie, though this happened before we paid so there should be no issue with that. Even with all these, our total transaction time was shorter than the ones before us, yet the staff member was scowling the whole time.

Was she really pissed off that a toddler changed his mind? I should note that the lady before us even questioned the staff member about the total price (I guess it was higher than expected) and the staff lady’s smile remained the whole time.

I am always hesitant to say that someone is racist. In this case where the staff was nice and pleasant to everyone else (who happened to be white) and only unpleasant with me (who is not white), I will just let what happened...

Ich frage mich wann diese eigentlich ja wohl Traditions-Bäckerei endlich mal ein ansprechendes Sortiment anbietet und ob sie es schafft, sich zu reformieren, bevor sie irgendwann mit ihrer alt gewordenen Kundschaft das Zeitliche segnet. Die Brotsorten sind zumeist fade, wenig haltbar und das Angebot allgemein ist ohne jeden Sinn für den Zeitgeist. Wie wärs mal mit einem knusprigen Sauerteig-Roggenbrot wie das Finken von der Bio Company? Mit attraktiven Sandwiches mit knackigem Salat und hochwertigen Belägen? Mit leckerem, nicht staubigem, Kuchen, der ein bisschen mehr tut, als einem den nüchternen Geschmackssinn deutscher Nachkriegszeit zu vermitteln? Ein bisschen mehr Lifestyle und internationales Flair kann man in einer wohlhabenden Gegend wie Othmarschen doch erwarten, oder? Alles, einschließlich der Einrichtung, ist hier so outdated wie aus den 90ern, was ja fast schon sympathisch, gemessen an den fehlenden Alternativen im Umkreis aber wirklich traurig ist. Nehmt euch doch mal ein Beispiel am Wettbewerb, zB Gaues oder DatBackhus in der Waitzstr. Viele junge Familien wohnen mittlerweile in dieser Gegend hier, und die sind aus der City weit besseres gewohnt. Ich prophezeie, dass es euch sonst in 5 Jahren...

Meine Frau hat heute unsere zwei Jungs eine Käsestange und eine Laugenstange gekauft. Die Tüten lagen noch auf dem Tresen, als meinem 3 jährigen klar wurde, dass er doch lieber einen Brezel möchte.
