La Paz Tapas Restaurant & Weinbar — Restaurant in Hamburg

This is my first negative review on Google. My husband and I have travelled a total of 30+ countries and we weren't sure if there was another restaurant that could top the rudeness that we received here at La Paz.

To be fair, it was the World Cup Final and the website stated that reservations weren't possible online. Understandable. We decided to just pass by and try our luck, if there weren't any table we could always come back another date.

There we were, standing at the entrance, watching the staff rushing around without anyone stopping to ask if we had a reservation or if we needed help. After a while, we saw that there was a table without a "Reservation" sign, so we just sat down. We decided on what to order, a waiter caught my eye contact and said that he'd be coming.

Some more minutes passed by, and another waiter with a big log book and a pen walked around, stopped at our table, and asked if we had a reservation. We said no and before we could ask if there were any other free tables, he tapped his pen on our table, loud and clear, and told us that we needed to leave the table, then turned his back and walked away.

Mind you, it had nothing to do with miscommunication nor language barrier since we both speak fluent German (my husband is a native speaker). I'm writing this comment in English to ensure that everyone understands. That's how frustrated and shocked we felt towards that type of treatment at a restaurant with a seemingly expensive menu. We left the restaurant with disgust and found Asia Quick not so far away - a place where food is decent, cheap (one full dish there costs the same as a tapas plate at La Paz) and most importantly, where staff has basic courtesy and manner.

I have shared three Tapas dishes between myself and my friend, the portion was perfect. We ordered two Veggie Tapas: Beetroot with goat cheese and potatoes with tomato sauce, both dishes were delightful and wonderfully presented. One meat tapas was chorizo and tomato sauce served with aioli & bread. Aioli sauce was so good to the point where we had it three times (two included in the dishes that we ordered). I gotta go for a run tomorrow but no regrets.

The only thing to add for improvement would be the attentiveness of service. But we were able to understand the situation since the restaurant is always booming with customers! Also the atmosphere is very relaxing yet rather classy with comfortable seats. The price for 3 tapas + extra bread with aioli added up to total €22.65, which I think is decent given that it was split in half between the two.

Definitely coming back to try...

Leider ein wirklich enttäuschender Abend. Direkt nach dem Umbau waren wir hellbegeistert, kreative Tapas, Küche vom Feinsten, auf qualitativ hohem Niveau. Toller, kompetenter und sympathischer Service, der gute Laune verbreitete und ehrlich herzlich war. Damals zwar schon etwas hochpreisiger, aber das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmte noch absolut. Dies ist leider vorbei, zumindest war der Abend gestern eine komplette Enttäuschung. Das Servicepersonal schwankte zwischen bemüht-freundlich und inkompetent (es ist schwierig, sich als Gast mit einer Kellnerin zu verständigen, die kaum deutsch spricht und versteht. Es kam zu ständig Missverständnissen), das Essen leider völlig uninspiriert, der Quinoa-Salat, auf den ich mich so gefreut hatte, praktisch nicht gewürzt und matschig, die kreativen Gerichte der Anfangszeit von der Karte verschwunden. Außerdem winzige Portionen. Ich weiß sehr wohl, dass es sich um Tapas, also um kleinere Portionen handelt, aber soo klein? Die Preise unverhältnismäßig bis unverschämt, für 0,15 l Weißwein muss man 8,50 € berappen (das entspricht einem Preis von 11,30 € für 0,2 l, meiner Meinung nach völlig überzogen), die Extraportion Brot (drei Scheiben), schlug mit 3,50 € auf der Rechnung zu Buche. Auch dies ist nicht nachvollziehbar, es sollte doch machbar sein, bei diesen Essens- und Getränkepreisen dem Gast wenigstens auch auf Nachfrage kostenloses Brot zur Verfügung zu stellen. Weiterer Kritikpunkt war die Musik. Überwiegend zu laut und stampfend, man fühlte sich wie auf einem Discoboot. Auch konnte man der Musik nirgends entfliehen, da über den Außenplätzen direkt die Lautsprecher angebracht sind und es auch innen zu laut war. Sehr schade, aber ich denke, hier müssen sich die Inhaber ernsthafte Gedanken über dieses Konzept machen, wenn sie dem Ambiente und dem Anspruch gerecht werden und das Niveau der Anfangszeit wieder erreichen wollen. Sehr schade!

Meine Bewertung vor ca. einem Jahr:

Wir haben einen wunderschönen Abend hier verbracht, unbedingt empfehlenswert! Tolle Atmosphäre, schöne Beleuchtung und sehr geschmackvolle Einrichtung, sehr, sehr freundlicher Service, und absolut gigantisch gutes Essen!! Mit viel Phantasie, Kreativität und Sorgfalt wird hier gekocht, fernab vom üblichen Tapas-Einerlei. Traumhaft krosses, sebstgebackenes Brot mit einer tollen Alioli vorweg, und die Portionen sind - anders als in vielen Tapas-Restaurants- gut bemessen. Die Preise sind absolut in Ordnung, und man bekommt wirklich einen tollen Gegenwert für sein Geld in jeder Hinsicht. Wir sind definitiv...
