I rated the food 2-star and removed a star due to their unprofessional and unfriendly service.
The dish sizes were big and considering the quantity the dishes prices are very fair. However, there was is kind of over exaggeration in each food preparation: the spinach gratin was covered with so much cheese such the spinach taste was totally dominated by cheese taste. The Hamburger fish pan was covered with so much sweet mustered such one could not feel any taste of fish. The was also served in a way that I could not even separate the sauce. While the fish was dried and tasteless. It was the same of the rest of dishes!
The service was very poor and unprofessional. Upon our entrance, a waiter asked for COVID vaccination proof and identification card and we all showed him very fast. While a friend of mine had difficulties finding his identification card to proof that the vaccination card belongs to him. The waiter was putting him under pressure and he was getting more nervous and helpless to find his card. After almost a minute the waiter shouted at him that he should prepare his document outside!!! It’s very rude and unprofessional. In general the servie was very poor and unprofessional. The dishes were coming one at a time with a considerable waiting time that for sake of all starting at the same time others have to eat a cold food and it happened for starters, main dishes...
Read moreAuthentic coastal German food that lived up to the high reviews. They had the typical Hamburg classics of Pannfisch and Labskaus, but what attracted me were the pickled herring options. There were several types to choose from, both German and Dutch varieties, or you can get a sampler plate with all three plus some tiny shrimps. I got a tomato soup and split the herring sampler with my dad, and had room for dessert.
There was a good variety of wine options by the glass, I went with the Riesling which balanced the fishy dish quite well. Appetizer was a tomato soup with cream that was quite good. For dessert, the Hamburg specialty Rote Grutze - homemade red currant jam with a delightful cream sauce.
Service was very friendly, and they had English menus available. The interior was decorated much like typical old-style Hamburg restaurants. I believe there was a patio that overlooked the Alster Pond, but was closed due to rain.
Don't miss a chance to try Hamburg classic...
Read moreA nice and quaint restaurant located in a semi-basement. Very typically German in terms of interior. The food was good, very good even. The portions were certainly sufficient (one plate of Schnitzel with baked potatoes certainly filled up my stomach, even though I had barely eaten during the day). However the choice of beer was lacklustre and the service was quite bad. It took us some minutes to be seated, then once we were seated we noticed that one of us didn't have any cutlery. When the waitress came to take our order she forgot to ask me what I wanted to drink (as in she just walked away to the next table before I could order). When we tried to pay, we realised that we had been given the wrong bill (or rather ours had been combined with someone else's). I think that the restaurant was too busy for just one waitress and she was just tired after a whole buddy evening of...
