If you come to Ludwigshafen and don’t visit Angelo, then you haven’t been to Ludwigshafen.

The restaurant occupies the entirety of what was a church and what remains of it; courtyard and towers included. The space is truly unique and charming as is the owner and his family.

Angelo brings the authentic tastes of Sicily to the Rheinland-Palatinate region. The pizza, pastas, and other home-made dishes are spectacular. I was lucky to taste a dish of Sicilian beans over risotto (pictured below) which was most delicious and satisfying.

It looks exciting, as it is a restaurant placed in a church tower. Promising reviews included, we decided to visit on my fiancee's birthday. The staff is kind, the place is cute, but unfortunately the food is dreadful. The antipasti plate for two was pricey, and the grilled vegetables were completely cold along with the few undertoasted bread pieces. My fiance had a Porcini e Salsiccia pasta, which he said was not bad, but the Pasta Ortolana was just bland, tasteless, all in all reminding me of a school cafeteria. Unfortunately will not...

Meine Empfehlung vorweg für den Besuch: Besteck auf Sauberkeit und Vollzähligkeit überprüfen Pizza oder Pasta bestellen, die is richtig gut/sieht gut aus Keine Vorspeise bestellen/keine Erwartungen haben Die Preise sind wirklich niedrig, die Pizza war sehr gut, die Pasta ist sicher auch gut, aber die Vorspeisen sind leider eher so lala. Wir hatten Bruschetta und einen Tomate-Mozzarella-Salat. Das Baguette vom Bruschetta war zwar gebacken, aber kalt, also nicht frisch zubereitet. Und der Knoblauch wurde offenbar maximal zwei Sekunden lang gehackt, die Stücke waren zentimetergroß. Und ich weiß nicht, ob die Reste verwerten wollten, aber bei beiden Vorspeisen waren noch einzelne lose Salatblätter mit dabei. Ohne irgendwas. Einfach so. Und bei dem Tomate-Mozzarella-Salat war noch gefühlt 1 Woche altes, weiches, trockenes, Baguette, das fast auseinanderfiel. Geschmeckt hat die Vorspeise trotzdem. Ganz großer Minuspunkt: Schmutziges und tlw nicht vollständiges Besteck. Unser Besteck war teilweise dreckig und nicht vollständig aufgedeckt. Bei den Nachbartischen sah das Besteck auch nicht besser aus. Das ist schon schwach. Auch, dass das Apfelschorle von Lift war und in der 0,33-Liter-Flasche hingestellt wurde und wir nur 0,2-Liter-Coca-Cola-Gläser hatten, die schon am Platz standen, obwohl wir beide gerne ein großes Getränk gehabt hätten, war jetzt nicht so schön. Bonuspunkt allerdings für die wirklich empfehlenswerte Pizza (und wahrscheinlich auch Pasta) und die im Sommer mit Sicherheit schöne Terasse sowie die wirklich niedrigen Preise.
