TL;DR owner will try to scam you. This review is also a response to the unpleasant response the owner left on my partner's review.

For context: Dined here with my partner, and ordered some drinks and a pizza to share (which we made explicitly clear at the time of ordering) but ended up receiving two pizzas. After checking if this was an honest mistake (new staff member suggested it was due to a mix up) we decided not make a fuss and would just pay for both, assuming it was a translation issue and an honest mistake. After we began eating, the chef/owner came to our table and said that because it was an Italian restaurant, if there are two people, you must buy two pizzas. Not only is this an outrageous ploy to scam people, it is not written anywhere on the menu or otherwise, and at the time of ordering, it should have been communicated to us that there was a policy that if you order a pizza, everyone needs to order a pizza, not just to force it upon the customers at the last minute.

Response to my partner's review: I felt the need to leave my own review and elaborate further given the unpleasantness of the response on my partner's review. In his response, the owner says we are too poor to go on holiday and we should have gone to McDonald's to save money. Wealth shaming customers is a strange publicity stunt, but it also misses the point we were prepared to pay, giving the benefit of the doubt. The owner then came out and told us he had understood we wanted just one, but gave two anyway as it's "an Italian restaurant". The deceit, lack of communication, arrogance that we would then have to buy two and then subsequent ridiculous responses to our review continue to compound the situation and leave a bad taste in the mouth. I suggest you read the responses to all the lower rated reviews as this is the person you will need to argue with if there's an issue.

A simple apology will suffice, along with an acknowledgement that you realise misleading and scamming customers is not acceptable behaviour. Calling customers names in your responses, saying they're poor, speaking in a condescending manner further the disgrace of this business, not least due to the fact it is the owner's own deliberate actions which have caused this issue. I look forward to your response and remind you this is a...

Owner tried to scam customers, best to avoid.

We visited on 18 February 2024 at around 17:00 and just wanted a drink outside and some nibbles. We ordered one beer, one wine and told the waitress that we wanted only one pizza to share. The waitress who took our order spoke some English so we assumed she was aware that we only wanted one pizza.

However, another waitress then brought out two pizzas. Originally, we thought it was an honest mistake, but before we started eating we double checked with the original waitress and she confirmed that she said just 1 pizza, and so not acting to make a fuss about what still appeared to be an honest mistake, so we just started eating, not wanting to waste any food and would be more than happy to pay for both.

Then the owner/chef came out and said that “this is an Italian restaurant, you can’t order one pizza to share” without apologising. In other words, he just forced the two pizzas on us (without thinking about checking with us whether we were happy to take two pizzas!?).

As this was not a mistake, but a deliberate attempt to scam us, we confronted them when it came to pay the bills. He ended up begrudgingly taking 5 euros off our bill, which although still pathetic was better than arguing further. This scamming behaviour has been reported in other reviews we unfortunately failed to read before this event, which I suggest you read too. We attached a photo of the venue in the case the owner tries the usual “must be somewhere...

When we're out during the day we generally grab something light, so as not to slow us down too much. A pizza to share is one of our favorites, something we've had dozens of times. Just to be clear, based on the replies on other reviews, we have enough money to buy 2, we just prefer to keep it light. We got our beers and asked for a pizza to share. We were told that this wasn't possible, that as there were 2 of us, we had to have 2 Pizzas. We decided to vote with our feet, we drank our beers and left to eat elsewhere. The restaurant was only about 10% full, so surely they'd have been better to get the money for 1 pizza, rather than none? In fairness, the food the couple had on the next table did smell nice, but we didn't...

Even though there are enough restaurants in Mittenwald to not eat at the same place for the three nights we stayed here we ate at Osteria three times. The pizza sauce, crust, and cheese were all amazing. The servers were some of the best we had in our time in Germany even with our awful German. The servers even sometimes sang along with the cheery Italian music. I really suggest making sure to get the garlic and chili sauce for the crust.
