I have not been treated this poorly in a long time. When we arrived we were seated at a table and given menus. Our "waiter" kept coming by and saying "one min"...after fifteen of those one minutes went by another person, I presume a bus boy type level came by...finally I thought, I would get my first beer in Germany. Nope. They asked us to move because we were seated at a 4 top and a local family needed it. We obliged, no problem right? No problem until they still refused to wait on us. They actually took the order of the table that just got there. I asked the busboy to take my order but he said he couldn't...that's pretty much how the whole meal went.
Our requests for things like plates to share the appetizers we ordered were provided after we were 75% eaten (we had a long day and were famished). Every drink I ordered had to be asked for twice and when delivered was slammed down on the table in the waiters haste to get to a locals table and whoop it up.
Listen, I get it, they need to cater to their own and they dont get a lot of tourists so that's not their thing. That's exactly why we chose to try it. The table we were moved for left an hour before we did. Not because we were hanging around, that's how long it took to get served.
So the food. The apps were very good. We got the Obazda, it's like a cream cheese with pickles. My wife and daughter loved it...me...not so much. We also tried the "meatballs"...they were exceptional..essentially two pieces of some of the best meatloaf I ever had. We also got The pig knuckle was very dry, my daughter had a steak ordered medium that came out well and was like leather, and my wife had the pork with mushrooms and spartzel...that was the best meal on the table (coincidentally bar far the cheapest).
To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. This place has a great vibe (from the customers not the staff) and is very close to our apartment. I thought this would be our "go to" spot but after being treated like a third class citizen, yea...that's not gonna happen.
PS...I should have went with he half pig knuckle so I asked for it to go...you have to look at the pic and see what they brought out...i mean you can't make...
Read moreWonderful traditional food & super friendly/casual atmospheric beer garden in a former hunting lodge… well-spaced outdoor picnic tables some within area with canvas roof… As well as many picnic tables for several hundred people outside … plus indoor seating
Typical well run, beloved-by-locals beer garden
In fact, it feels like a regional park with so many trees and picnic tables well spaced out… warning = the German obsession for smoking before, during and after a meal is an issue with us Californians … the fact that it’s outdoors under a bunch of large trees, as well as with considerable light breeze capability, and well-spaced tables means you don’t have to deal with your neighbors’ vapung or smoking habit/addiction …
What also makes this a wonderful, friendly atmosphere is the fact that it is so family-friendly as are all beer gardens that we ever have experienced in Germany… Kids of all ages mixed up with each other, with their friends and with their families (and occasionally their grandparents and even aunts/uncles… it seems like the majority of people are small groups of several couples with odd singles mixed with them
Schweine Hacksen perfectly grilled with the right amount of skin to crack.
Spargel (white asparagus) was delicately steamed perfectly, Services very friendly standard price… The sauce was very fresh to my wife totally enjoyed it along with the chicken noodle dumplings … note that this delicacies that all Germans go crazy for is usually only available during his growing season of May
The ham that was the side dish (beilage) of the spargel course was delicious
Parking is usually a challenge here, but if you persist, you might find a spot on the street around this...
Read moreThis establishment blatantly cheats English-speaking tourists. English menu indicates "cordon bleu" pork cutlet and states "choose one side" from a list of French fries, spatzle, potato and cucumber salad, fried potatoes, mixed vegetables with herbs, or a side salad. I asked the waiter "so I get to select a side from this list?" and he responded "yes". I asked if he had a particular recommendation, but he did not offer one. I asked if the spatzle was good, and he indicated it was. I said I would try it. When the bill was tallied up, it came to 51,50 euro. It was not itemized. After paying, I felt the bill was high so I asked to see it broken down. It showed a charge of 8,90 euro for the spatzle (in addition to 6,20 euro for one liter of tap water, which is shown on the menu). The English menu simply lists the sides, while the German menu version states, "We would be happy to serve you:" and has the prices next to each of the sides. The German menu clearly indicates that sides are extra, while the English menu, and the waiter, both indicated one side was included. From the moment the waiter approached us, I felt a sense of being mocked, and in the end I was correct. This is a reprehensible restaurant and it is shameful that they choose to defraud visiting...
