Nestled in the vibrant Schwabing area, this charming beer garden is a delightful find. During my stay at the nearby Pullman Hotel, just a ten-minute stroll away, I discovered a lively atmosphere enhanced by a fantastic live band that kicked off their set around 9 PM. The tables were thoughtfully spaced, allowing for a sense of privacy, while the attentive servers ensured our glasses were never empty. The overall ambiance was wonderfully inviting, especially on a cool, dry day. However, I did encounter a significant wait for my food—about an hour, to be precise. The presentation of the dishes was notable, with every table showcasing a consistent flair. Although my schweinhaxen could have been crispier, it still brought a satisfying taste to the experience. While I might consider returning, it wouldn’t be my top choice for German cuisine in Munich.

We had a lovely Bavarian dinner at Brunnwart. Since it was a weeknight, the place felt relaxed and not too crowded. The beer garden was charming, beautifully lit with strings of lights, creating a warm atmosphere. We ordered Bavarian specialties – the pork knuckle and Nuremberg sausages – along with some tap beer. The drinks were good, and I especially enjoyed the refreshing lemonade-beer mix. While the food was as expected and not particularly outstanding, it was still satisfying. My 5-year-old daughter was delighted with a giant pretzel, and we all shared the daily special – Kaiserschmarrn flambéed with raisins and almonds, served with apple sauce. The portion was generous, more like a main course than a dessert.

Brunnwart has the best pretzels and schnitzel hands down! If you have never had a real Laugenbrezel which uses a lye bath, you need to make sure to order one. For those visiting from the US that don’t speak German, it’s not an issue! The bad reviews are a complete lie and likely from people who want everything spoon fed. They have English menus and the staff speak English just fine. Be forewarned that Brunnwart is a smaller establishment and you might have to wait a few minutes to be seated which is standard almost everywhere. Shocker I know! If you have made it this far into my lengthy review then do yourself a favor and stop by on your next visit.

It was a horrible experience for me to have my birthday meal there. It was a total mistake.

We had before my birthday celebration once at this place for Münchener Schnitzel. It was somehow OK (standard bavaria food). So we decided to go there again for my birthday.

I called one week in advance for a reservation and especially talked with the owner about bringing a cake myself. We only have two adults and a baby. He said, usually it costs €1,90 "plate fee" each person for nringing own food. Because we don t have too many people, so it is ok to bring our own cake without any problem.

I was really looking forward and excited about having my small birthday celebration there. Then came the DISASTER: I came in with my cake box in my hand. The waitress was staring at me without any polite face. She guided us to a table unfriendly and said NOTHING. During the time waiting for our food, I opened my cake box. The waitresses were just staring at us and talking with each other. To be honest, I was hoping that they could actively coming to me and offering me at least a lighter for the candle. BUT NOTHING! I decided to have my meal first and eat my cake afterwards. Luckily my husband had a lighter. So we lighted the candle after the meal. During this time, the table beside us congratulated to me. But there is NO REACTION and NO WARNING from the waitress. So we used the knife for cutting the Schnitzel to cut my cake and used the salad plate to hold my cake on. After I had my first bite of my cake, the waitress came to me and complained that we were not allowed to have our own food here. So the whole time, she was just waiting for me to eat my cake, so that she could stop me at that exact time point. Then came the owner whom I talked in the phone. And of course he forgot about everything and insisted that we need to pay the "plate fee". The result is my birthday is ruined and I could not enjoy my birthday cake because of this unbelievable behavior of the service.

They had a lot of time points to inform us about not having own food in their restaurant: when I came in with my cake box in hand when I opened my cake box before food served when I started to cut my cake with the Schnitzel knife when I put my cake in the salad plate

We don't mind about some euros of the "plate fee". I just wanted a nice birthday celebration. Maybe also a few friendly words and active services like bringing a lighter, a fresh knife and plates for cake.

In the end, we payed €5 for the "plate fee" willingly and claimed that we would not like to come again.

If you are waiting for friendly services, you will be disappointed in...
