Gundel — Restaurant in Munich

This cafe is such a lovely treasure. I visited twice during a recent visit to Munich and both times the cakes were terrific, the service was impeccable, friendly and multilingual, and the little patio area in front was quiet - all perfect for relaxing and enjoying the afternoon.

On my first visit, there were about 5 varieties of cakes to choose from - I opted for the raspberry cake, which the woman said wasn’t as sweet as it looked and was actually very light. She was right; the cake texture was light and well-made, the raspberry “frosting” on top was slightly tart with the flavor of the fruit and not at all heavy. Other options included a Guinness cake, eggnog cake, German cheesecake, lemon cake, and two cakes that had just been made and were so fresh they couldn’t be cut into yet 😋

On my second visit, a different woman was working there - she was also super friendly, and recommended the German cheesecake. There were some other cake options, including a carrot and a poppy seed. The German cheesecake was light and tangy, perfect for a chill autumn day with an espresso.

A very lovely and cosy place, where you can take a good coffee, with some handmade cookies, all made with love. "Home Sweet home feeling" Very polite lady 😉. I highly recommend getting here, alone or with family and friends, also you can buy coffee beans to take out, some kitchen goods. It's a high five...
