Restaurant Gaststätte Gartenoase/Zum Kuckuck nochmal — Restaurant in Munich

The sign for this place on Leopoldstrasse could easily be missed, and as you enter the little lane through the allotments, you wonder if you are in the right place and then suddenly there it is. There were 10 in our party and the initial impression was that we might be too mny for the owner. How wrong can you be? With the help of his very limited English and Google translate we had soon ordered a variety of great local food, including schnitzel pork knuckle and red fish (cod) and several litres of reall good beer. We arived after two flights and a bus journey at about 1400 hrs after leaving Glasgow at 0545 and we were tired and hungry. As the meal proceeded we managed more communication with the boss and his sons. There was never any pressure on us to hurry and we left a bit after 1600 feeling happy and well treated. We arrived without a reservation with a party of 9, and the host was so gracious to ask another couple to move so there was room for our large party. The interior and exterior was so charming, and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As tourists, we really appreciated the recommendations, and really enjoyed the experience. My children really enjoyed the schnitzel, and my father had the beef. All of our food was fantastic and the service was amazing. They were so kind! Besucht wurde die Gartenoase vor ca. zwei Wochen. Diese befindet sich in einem Kleingartenverein und der Eingang hierzu ist schon sehr gut versteckt, wenn man nicht richtig hierdrauf achtet. Mit dem Auto müsste man schon in gewisse Entfernung einen Parkplatz suchen, um dann zu Fuß hierher zu kommen.

Bestellt haben wir Schnitzel Wiener Art und einen Backfisch. Der Ladenbesitzer war schon sehr nett und hat uns eher panierte Hähnchengeflügel empfohlen, welche nicht auf der Karte eingetragen wurde. Er war sehr ehrlich und hat gemeint, dass die Backfische tiefgefroren waren und von Geschmack her nicht den absoluten Hit sind. Von Geschmack her gab es keine besonderen Überraschungen und beide Gerichte haben dem Standard entsprochen, was man von einem Restaurant im Kleingartenverein erwarten kann.

Der Ladenbesitzer war sehr nett und hat auch selbst direkt die Gäste bedient, während ein weiterer Kellner nur für den Bar zuständig war. Der Besitzer hat fließend Deutsch mit leichtem Akzent gesprochen und hat auch einen guten Humor gemacht, was bei den meisten Leuten vermutlich gut aufgenommen könnte.

Das Ambiente war eher sehr einfach und locker, es war super für ein gemütliches und gechilltes Abendessen oder Bierchen. Die Preis-Leistungsverhältnis war entsprechend gut akzeptabel, da die meisten Restaurants in der Umgebung doch schon leicht teurer sind. Am Ende hat der Ladenbesitzer noch ein Gläschen Schnaps verschenkt, welches jedoch aus persönlichen Gründen dankend abgelehnt wurde :)
