As an Irishman, there's an irony that my worst ever pub experience was caused by a non-Irishman in an Irish pub in Germany. We arrived and it was quite busy, but there were no signs to wait to be seated and none of the tables had reserved signs on them, so we sat down. Immediately the chunky blonde bartender shouted at us that we shouldn't sit somewhere without asking and that he has 'nothing free for us', effectively telling us to leave. We did nothing to this man and this level of instinctive rudeness feels staggeringly incompetent. When looking for the restroom the bartender came out from behind the bar and pushed me towards the door. When inquiring why, I was asked to go outside. The outside seating area feels like an old barn with mismatched furniture, unwashed blankets and 1 heater for 4 tables to share. It was a mess.
