KOYA - Paderborn — Restaurant in Paderborn

Unfortunately we had an awful experience.

Short version: We waited for 90+ minutes as a group of 7 only for the kitchen to realise after said 90+ minutes that they couldn’t fix one dish. Also we sat with empty drinks for most of the evening as no one bothered to check.

Long story: The service was horrendous as we ordered our food when the restaurant was fairly empty and then waited for an hour until our patience was up and the drinks empty (no server looked at us or asked whether we were content in the meantime). After asking for our food we were told that it was in the making; after another 10 minutes we asked if at least the appetisers could be brought out (again no service - no voluntary offer to refill the drinks or free appetisers to make the wait easier). After another 10-15 minutes the appetisers we had ordered an hour ago arrived. Out of 3 only 2 were palatable (something was off with one dish). After having finished the appetisers we asked for the rest of the food (approx. 90 minutes into the wait; about 2 hours after arrival) and the waitress returned telling us first that we were the next table to be served, we also got served some food that wasn’t ours and was taken away again and then on another attempt of inquiry they told us that one dish couldn’t be made and we should choose differently. They realised after 90+ minutes that a dish was not on the menu anymore. Absolutely ridiculous.

Additionally, we had a small infant with us and after our 1-hour-long wait we asked to at least serve the child, but even that took another 10 minutes (to fix chicken and rice in an Asian restaurant…).

In the end we left the restaurant with an a empty stomach. We didn’t have to pay for the drinks and appetisers but after that kind of service it was the least they could do.

Perhaps we will try again as any restaurant can have a bad day like this. However, I hope the manager of said restaurant takes the time to improve the service mindset within his team and I hope that no one else will have to spend that much time on not getting the food that...

Vietnamesisch ist irgendwie anders ... Das Ambiente ist sehr schön, mal von den Sitzbänken abgesehen - die finde ich eher unbequem. Aber darum geht es ja vorrangig nicht. Das es kein "Buffet-Restaurant" ist, ist schon mal positiv, sonst wäre ich auch gar nicht hingegangen. Die Bedienung ist aufmerksam und freundlich. Soweit, so gut - alles was danach kam, war leider ein totaler Reinfall. Beim Blick in die Karte fällt schon auf - hier wird auf Masse gekocht. Die Kombination "verschiedene Gemüse mit Reis oder Nudeln in den Varianten Huhn, Ente und Rind erlauben es dem Lokal, daraus etwa 75 % der Gerichte zu zaubern - aber eigentlich ist es immer das Gleiche. Bei den Vorspeisen war schon klar - die meisten der Gäste verlangen wohl Masse - schade, wenn man als Restaurantbetreiber darauf reagieren muss. Meine Wantan-Taschen - erwartet hatte ich so drei bis vier kleine, pikant gefüllte Täschchen, entpuppten sich als 3 sehr große, extrem panierte, fettige Friteusentaschen - danach war man eigentlich satt. Meine Begleitungen nahmen Sommerrollen bzw. einen Salat mit Mango. Auch hier definitiv: Masse vor Klasse. Als Hauptgang kamen die so berühmte, und wenn richtig zubreitet, brillante Phoe - das, zur Erklärung an den Koch - ist eine Suppe ... Dann kam noch eine "knusprig gebratene Ente" auf den Tisch, ich selbst wählte Riesengarnelen in HoiSin Sauce. Jetzt machen wir es kurz: die Suppe war keine Suppe, sondern im Prinzip das gleiche Gericht wie die "knusprige Ente" mit Reis - nur in einem anderem Teller und mit Nudeln statt mit Reis. Die Ente war auf beiden Tellern auch nicht knusprig gebraten - sondern tot aufgewärmt. Die gereichten Saucen zu allen Gerichten, sei es die süß saure oder meine HoiSin Sauce zu den Garnelen waren schlechte Fertigprodukte - frisch war da nix. Auch das Gemüse kam nicht, wie angepriesen, aus dem Wok - mutete eher nach Mikrowelle an. Aufgrund der üppigen Vorspeise schaffte es jemand von uns beim Hauptgericht nur noch etwas zu probieren - die Nachfrage zur Mitnahme wurde mit 1,50 Euro beziffert - danke, haben wir vom Trinkgeld abgezogen. Auf einen Dessert haben wir besser verzichtet. Die Ansprache an das Publikum war im Ganzen klar "hier kriegst du satt - quasi wie Buffet, nut gleich auf dem Teller" - die Mühe, uns in passender Atmosphäre eventuell Stäbchen zum Essen anzubieten, hat man sich erst gar nicht gemacht - zum Glück fand ich welche im Servicebereich. Fazit: Jeder kleine asiatischer Imbiss, bei dem ich wenigstens zusehen kann, wie meine Ente im Wok landet, schlägt dieses Restaurant um Längen. Einmaliger Besuch - schade, schränkt die Auswahl in Paderborn wieder etwas ein. Aber vielleicht tue ich dem Restaurant Unrecht, weil die einfach so kochen müssen, um wirtschaftlich klarzukommen - ich hätte an diesem Abend lieber 200 Euro statt der aufgerufenen 100 Euro bezahlt und wäre nach Hause gegangen mit dem Gefühl, heute einmal etwas Besonderes...

Arriving in the restaurant showed a nice surrounding. The staff was very friendly and supportive. Ordering was done within a recent time. The meals were very tasty and freshly made. I was waiting for it for about 15 minutes (Udon noodles). Asks for special meal requirements are correctly considered by the kitchen. Thanks a lot for that!

Why only 3 out of 5 stars…

If you need some additional beverages, you need to take action. If you would like to take the rest of your meal with you, they charge you additionally 1.50 EUR, which happened to me the first time in Germany. Fortunately they informed me in advance about this.
