Food 5/5 Service 1/5 Ambiance 4/5
Eight of us decided to celebrate our international student life after pandemic at La medina since it said come with a smile, time and hunger. With great excitement we arrived at the restaurant in 32 degree Celsius weather. We arrived at 19:30 and was welcomed by the friendly sweet owner who informed the concept of surprise menu. Which we were eager since we could spend more time talking to each other and not deciding the menu. The food which were brought to us with an interval of 45-50 minutes were super delicious (walnut&date, mint tea, beetroot soup, salad, couscous, tortelloni, lamb and dessert). The portion of food was same for table of two and four so in the end we had small portions each with waiting period of 45 m between each meal. The owner being a perfectionist didn't really let the employees work to their full capacity and hence the service which was provided lacked in efficiency. The dessert which was placed on our table was picked and passed to the next table, which was actually tasted by one of our friend. At the end of the day the owner decided to give us an discount on the entire price, during this one of our friend brought the lack of service issue to the owners attention, to this we were faced with a turmoil. The owner mocked our friend front of other guest and discussed about this young boys in-competencies and qualification. He asked us to take the money and go to Aksaray or some other place and never come back. To conclude, the food was really tasty and cooked with love but the overall experience scarred me. It was really scary to experience this attitude in another continent. At the end of the day we were left with neither a smile, satisfaction of...
Read moreThis restaurant is for people who want to enjoy a culinary experience with friends or family and live for the moment - not for people who want to take lots of photos and post them on Instagram. In fact, the owner explicitly says that he would not like photos to be taken on the premises, hence why there are no photos. There are no menus, instead the owner comes to your table and provides you each dish individually - after first checking you have no dietary requirements. Each individual course (we had 10 before we had to leave and we hadn't yet had the dessert!) was delicious and beautiful. Intense flavours and traditional combinations that were extremely well-balanced and left you wanting more. After about 7 dishes, we started to feel rather full but the food just kept coming! It was a truly memorable experience and the owner's passion was visible. He took the time to speak to us and even spoke in broken English (with a few French words in the mix!). We didn't have enough time to fully enjoy the experience as we were not prepared for what greeted us, since we were not able to book in advance. Please take at least 2 hours to make the most of this experience. The food was amazingly good value with all courses for just 27.90 EUR/head plus 4.90 EUR per water carafe (with added hints of strawberry, mint and what may have been orange blossom) - he even took off 2 EUR pp as we weren't able to stay for dessert! I think we also missed a cous cous course... there was just so much. We were stuffed and more than satisfied with the Moroccan feast. Our most unique and intriguing dining experience in...
Read moreEven though the food was nice I cannot recommend going to this place.
The owner/waiter/cook is running a one man show, constantly talking about the weirdest things (how he isn’t doing this for money but the “experience of connecting people with each other and the food”). In his condescending and judging behavior he is impolite and honestly even rude!
Cell phones are strictly forbidden (even just having it laying on the table or next to you, and that is simply because he “has an allergy to cell phones”). You better not ask a question because you will either get a nasty arrogant response or an entire life story you didn’t ask for.
When a customer next to us asked what kind of cuisine he is serving, he went on about what he should answer to this question because he is influenced by all the 48 countries he has apparently lived in. Ugh, so annoying!
It really bothered us, that he made us go outside of the restaurant with all other customers and have a glass of wine “on the house”. Having planned for a romantic dinner with my partner I don’t want to mingle with people.
After 4 hours of this freak show we told him that we need to get going and want to pay and cannot wait for dessert any longer. When I did the unheard of by wanting to pay by card, he sent us home telling me to contact him via Whatsapp to pay the bill later. So I did -...
