Beach Club — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Friedrichshafen

My husband and I decided to stop for a drink here after reading all the great reviews. However, the waiter completely ruined our experience. From the minute we got there he was rude and ignored us. After about 15 minutes, he came over to take our order but clearly wasn’t paying attention to anything we were saying. We speak English and do not know much German so we were pointing to the items we wanted on the menu. He refused to look at the menu and was looking around, rolling his eyes, ignoring us. Then he left and when our drink order came 15 minutes later, it was wrong. When I tried to explain and point to the menu at what we wanted, he got mad, wouldn’t say anything and took the drinks back to the bar. We didn’t know if he was coming back or not, but he finally brought the correct order to us. He then went to the table next to us where an elderly couple was sitting and started speaking to them loudly in German (so we had no idea what he was saying), pointing at us, rolling his eyes, everyone was staring and it was very embarrassing. We just ignored it and tried to enjoy our drinks by the water, but when he brought the bill, he told us the amount without providing a paper check. The amount was 27 euro, for 2 drinks....When I asked to see the check he held up his handheld device to a screen that just said the total, and he refused to show me the breakdown of charges. I didn’t want to try and argue so we just paid. I’m sure he charged us for the drinks we didn’t order but we didn’t drink those and he took them after I told him we didn’t order them-so to make us pay was wrong. I’m sad this man ruined our time at the Beach Club and I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else. It is a tourist town, a tourist restaurant, so I’m not sure why he thought it was ok to treat...

Pros: great location, nice views, easy access from promenade, initial service was relatively fast, everything looked relatively clean.

Cons: after the initial service we were largely ignored and forgotten by our wait staff. Empty glasses sat on the table for more than 10 minutes before we finally managed to get the attention of our server who got us our refills and abruptly dropped them onto our table without a word. I felt like we must have done something to offend! Getting the bill also took a long time, my group and I sat there for quite a while trying to catch her eye, but it was like we were invisible, despite sitting directly in front of the bar and service area. Food was acceptable, but we suspect it comes, at least in part, pre-made from the freezer.

I recently visited this beach club located near the city center, and my experience was very pleasant. Although I did not stay for long, I appreciated the relaxed and spacious setting.
