The Grillroom — Restaurant in Accra

On 23.06.2023 we went to The Grillroom for dinner with a group of 6 people. On this day, the entire meal was a disaster and was also communicated on FB. The management had apologised for the unusual quality of the food and invited us for dinner to show us the true quality of the cuisine. Yesterday, 26.09.2023 was the day, we met with 5 people for dinner at The Grillroom. What can I say, a completely different evening than before. The chef Pieter Malan gave us a very warm welcome and asked us if we wanted to order from the menu or if he could surprise us with a menu a la chef. We chose the a la chef option and did not regret it with any course. The red and white wines went very well with the menu and every single course, 5 in total, was a real treat. I can say that it was by far the best meal we have had in the last 4 years here in Ghana. The food consisted of local and non-imported products and the ribeye steak was very tender, excellent in taste and does not need to hide behind imported meat. I was so looking forward to coming and was quite disappointed overall.

I was surprised the soup starter had for huge chunks of bone-in hard chicken and was somehow supposed to eat it with a spoon. They could have easily cut up the chicken so you could actually eat it well in such a setting as I don’t us sided to stick my fingers in the soup and use my hands. I only had some of the soup and not the chicken and wanted it packed so I’d leave room for the rest of the food but someone took away my bowl and threw it away.

The calamari was soft, greasy and tasted like it was fried in very old oil.

The steak was supposed to be medium but it was well done and tough, only half of it was eaten.

The fish was quite salty and dense and we didn’t get through even half of it.

The only garlic aspect of the garlic mashed potatoes was the little fried garlic garnish.

The ginger dessert packed a punch and was good except being given a fork for ice-cream.

The crème brûle was quite dense.

This review is long overdue, but my visit to The Grillroom for a Valentine’s dinner in 2023 was too good not to share. I had a five-course dinner, and while it was on the pricier side, it was absolutely worth it. The service was impeccable and the waitstaff were not only professional but also genuinely friendly, which added to the warm and inviting atmosphere. Each course was well thought out, beautifully presented, and delicious, making the entire dining experience feel special. The ambiance of the restaurant also contributed to the experience, with a cozy and elegant setting perfect for the occasion. To make the evening even more romantic, there was a live singer performing love songs, which added a lovely touch to the atmosphere and made the night feel extra special. If you’re looking for a spot that delivers quality food, excellent service and an overall great dining experience, The Grillroom is definitely worth considering.
