KALIVA — Restaurant in Argostoli Municipality

Kaliva is one of our favorite restaurants in Skala. It is off of Main Street so it has sea views and cool sea breezes. The kitchen is very consistent and the wait staff is superb. My husband eats meat and really enjoyed his meal that our server recommended. I must note that our female server was very attentive and VERY conscientious that my daughter is VEGAN and I am Vegetarian. She double checked (twice) with the kitchen to make sure that the dishes we ordered were suitable for our tastes. We honestly felt that she respected our lifestyle. While the options are limited for vegans / vegetarians, the dishes we ordered were delicious! The Briam is vegan with generous portions and very tasty. The Gemista is vegetarian was great made with some feta cheese. Both of our dishes were fresh and well seasoned. We also ordered the fried courgette as an appetizer and we REALLY liked them. We might even come back at happy hour just for them. Haha. Kaliva is very clean. Usually has lots of free parking as it’s located on the road into town next to the Roman Villa. Nice sea views and cool breezes enhance the dining experience. They also serve a great breakfast in case you are visiting Skala for the day. If you’re in Skala for an extended period of time, make sure you have at least one nice dinner at Kaliva. Reservations are recommended, but if you like to eat early like we do, than walk ins are okay....

After a good meal on our first visit, we decided to return to Kaliva, unfortunately that was a big mistake, it was not the poor quality food that has prompted us to pen this review but the way the staff responded when we complained. My partners chicken fillet was inedible due to it being so tough it was difficult to cut with a sharp knife and impossible to eat. We did not want to make a fuss so we informed our waitress of the problem. When the bill came we had been changed fully for the inedible meal. I asked a waiter if this was normal to charge for such a bad meal he said he could reduce the bill by 6euro half the cost of the meal, I was not happy and stated they would receive a bad review. Things then got nasty as a large man came from the kitchen and said we could not leave until we paid the bill in full. We felt threatened and intimidated when the staff gathered around us so very reluctantly we paid the bill. If you decide to go to this restaurant please do not complain...

went to the kaliva restaurant this evening and very welcoming ordered our food and drinks no problem then our food came out I had ordered lamb shank with chips and rice. Had a lovely lamb shank and 3 bits of potato don’t know what happened to the chips and rice I was to believe it came with and after eating which was very nice but still hungry waited for about 40 minutes I asked for the dessert menu had to wait for that as well then they came over to ask us what we would like I said nothing as we had been waiting to long and as with that snatched the menu away asked for the bill left the money and left they don’t seem to have enough staff for the amount of customers that was coming in didn’t leave a tip AND I WONT BE GOING BACK seemed very rude once they had taken...
