Old Times — Restaurant in Argostoli Municipality

My partner and I find ourselves at times yearning to be “adopted” by Greece, as it’s so close to our hearts. And usually it’s our experience with the people and places, such as the owners and employees at this wonderful tavern, that reinforce this connection we feel to Greek culture.

I could conjure many poetic words and elaborate phrases, but let’s be pragmatic. If you love delicious authentic food, know that every time we visited this restaurant, about 2/3 of the customers were locals.

If you love great views and serene settings, know that this place is perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, and the tables are in a countryside-style garden with thick shade, olive trees and relaxing buzz of cicadas.

If you want to pay a fair price for your meal, know that two people will eat heartily and enjoy a bottle of wine for under €75 altogether. And the owner will usually include a treat at the end!

It’s by far the loveliest place we’ve been in Kefalonia, so do yourselves a favor and visit it at least once if you’re on the eastern side...

We were twice on island of Kefalonia, and we did it with our own car, driving around and exploring it, with lot of perfect tips from our friends Ermioni and Doriforos, but I can say that in terms of quality and taste if fish and seafood there is no better place than Nikos's Old Times on all of Kefalonia. The restaurant is set above the road giving a great view on the sea and the Skala bay, interior and exterior very sleek, simple, elegant and done with a lot of taste. Service was perfect, attentive and descreet, with a mellow traditional Greek music as background. The fish was fresh and delicious, a local catch from the sea, not imported or from some fish farm, the difference in quality was obvious. We enjoyed every second of it! Also not to forget, restaurant have a pretty amazing choice of local wines too. A really atmospheric way to spend our last night on the island We came across the restaurant after walking along the road one evening- The views from the terrace looking out across the sea are spectacular However the service and food were outstanding The gentleman welcomed us with handshake and showed us to a table where a lady came and talked us through the specials and made suggestions kindly We ordered the fish platter - which had drawn us into the restaurant- preceded by a local salad with gogi berries Fresh bread and olives and a litre of White House wine complimented our choice- nothing disappointed and the young waiters who served were polite and efficient- almost apologetic when they came to clear or serve.
