Nikos Tavern — Restaurant in Ithaca Municipality

We came here following a recommendation from another local spot – and it was absolutely worth it! The restaurant has a cozy, authentic Greek tavern feel, with simple but charming table settings and incredibly friendly service.

We ordered the pita gyros, and it was simply perfect. The meat was juicy and flavorful, grilled over charcoal, wrapped in a soft and slightly crispy pita. The fries were freshly made – not frozen – golden and crispy, exactly as they should be. The portion was generous, and everything tasted fresh and homemade.

Prices were very fair considering the quality and size of the portions. The atmosphere was relaxed and genuinely local – a real taste of Greece without any touristy overkill.

This should be a five star review but it is not.

We found this restaurant by luck. It was the busiest in the area when and decided to sit. The food was genuinely exceptional, some of the best kotosouvli (pork and chicken) we have eaten!

Why did I give it only 3 stars?

I ordered 0.5l of house white wine and was charged 9EUR! This is pure theft. On average one pays 4-6EUR for such wine. To charge as much as they did is simply unacceptable.

Have eaten at many other taverna s on the island and it’s this first time I was charged this much for house wine.

What was suppose to be a great night out in beautiful Ithaca turned into a sad one. The waiter seemed at first to be a nice guy brining food we didn’t order making it look like it’s from the house, but of course it did end on our bill. On top of the extra food brought to the table that we had to pay for, we’ve been charged extra +50€ (!!!). After asking for a detailed bill, immediately the waiter said “my friend I will deduct 30€ from your bill” but still insisting for the detailed bill we’ve learned that we’ve been charged extra with more than 50€ 😔. Defintley a place I will avoid...
