Bittersweet Farewell after so many years
We have been loyal fans of Restaurant Anthoula for years — it was one of those rare gems where everything just worked: the food, the ambiance, the service, and the feeling that you were part of something special - the magic of this beautiful old town square.
So, it was with excitement — and a little nervousness — that we visited their new location. While the space is beautiful in its own right, something essential feels missing. The cozy charm and warmth that defined the old spot seem to have been replaced by a sleeker, more polished look that, while stylish, lacks the soul we loved.
But the biggest change — and the most heartbreaking — is the menu. The beloved dishes we once knew have been replaced with an entirely new culinary direction. While we respect a restaurant’s right to grow and evolve, the new menu feels like a departure rather than an evolution. The flavors are different, the focus has shifted, and unfortunately, the magic that once kept us coming back just isn't there anymore.
We truly wish the team all the success in the world in this next chapter, but for those of us who fell in love with the original version of Anthoula it’s hard not to feel like we’ve lost something special. We are missing the old square, the old food and...
Read moreWe read in a review before coming to Anthoulas that this was the best food in the whole peninsula - after two beautiful dinners we couldn’t agree more! ;) We tried several meat dishes as well as starters and everything was beyond delicious. Don’t hesitate to order the grilled halloumi cheese - it is not the same you eat at home ;) - and take one of their gorgeous salads also with the starters (it’s a great portion, good for 2). Lamb chops, Easter goat from Kassandra - we were in heaven with these two dishes, and then we tried the Loukaniko sausage and a dish of the day with a butter-soft beef stuffed eggplant/aubergine (Melitzanes Papoutsakia), equally mouth-watering. On top of this, the scenery is a rustic round square, away from the tourist crowded streets, where the restaurant and the square become one. We hope we have the chance to...
Read moreIf you only have a day in Kassandra Peninsula, then don't miss the experience of Athoulas goodies. A great atmosphere in a small square with a huge plane tree and the tables all in its shade. The service is quick and effective, they can even help you with your order. We had Anthoula herself take our order and she was giving us tips about the different plates of the day. The food was really good. We ordered the lamb in the over with rise, the pork chops, the Dakos Salat, tsantziki, the minced-meat pie, saganaki cheese. Everything was really very very tasty. I would highly recommend this place for Greeks or tourists in the area. Its not a tourist trap and the Greek food here is really as you could try it in a Greek home where a Greek mum has cooked. Thanks dear Anthoula...
