El Gato Negro — Restaurant in Kassandra Municipality

Small but really packed, the food was amazing the customer service was a bit slow but the quality was undeniable ,but I cant complain as there was only one waitress and we happened to sit down when a lot of tables finished their meals and started getting up, so we waited a bit(but it wasnt anything unreasonable or unjustified). We ordered pancetta, kalamari grilled mushrooms and fries. The kalamari and fries were fried till golden brown, they were crunchy and cooked perfectly, the fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, but most importantly they were homemade, not the bagged freezed half-fried ones. Due to my own shortcomings i didnt realize pancetta was another name for a food that i avoid, but my personal feelings on the dish aside, it was exceptional, 3 big pieces which were juicy and tender. My only real complaint is that the mushrooms are served whole and needed more grilling. The chef came out himself and asked if everything was OK, when I brought up the mushrooms he said “thank you for the honest opinion” and drank a round of raki with us on the house. The best place to enjoy real, traditional food!

My friend and I ordered a Greek salad, bougiourdi, kebab, and a delicious round-shaped dish (I can’t remember the name exactly) served with tzatziki sauce — everything was absolutely mouthwatering. We also had ouzo, beer, and pineapple juice. The total bill was just €50, which is incredibly cheap considering the quality and taste of the food. Honestly, everything we tried exceeded our expectations. The food alone deserves a 1000% recommendation!

Now, about the atmosphere and service — the owner was incredibly sweet, welcoming, and attentive. It really felt like being hosted by family. Oh, and let’s not forget — we were treated to four shots of Cretan raki on the house!

Decent food but very bad service. I can almost call this place a tourist trap. The server simply put the dishes at the corner of the table and we had to assign the meals ourselves. After we finished eating, no one came to clean the table. We waited about 30 minutes for them to come take the empty plates and bring the receipt. No luck. We eventually went to the bar to pay and leave. Once they serve the meals, they really don't care about their guests. Will sure not come back and I sure don't recommend this place. Unless you want to feel disrespected for your money. Otherwise the food was decent. No deserts in the menu and no one cares of you want...
