đŤ Skip Flegra â Go to Nefeli Garden Instead
I donât usually leave negative reviews, especially when it comes to service in the Balkans. Having grown up here, I understand that the approach to hospitality is culturally different from North America or Western Europeâand Iâve come to appreciate both. But in this case, the food and service at Flegra were so disappointing that it left no room for understanding.
đ The Food: Pre-cooked, Cold, and Overdone
I visited with a friend whoâs been a regular at this taverna for yearsâthis was her first visit of the season, and even she was shocked at how bad itâs gotten. We ordered: ⢠Octopus ⢠Tsipoura (Seabream) ⢠Tzatziki ⢠Greek salad ⢠Bread
Within 5 minutes, all the food was on our table. That alone was a red flagâit was clear the fish and octopus had been pre-cooked and reheated. ⢠The octopus was rubbery and overcooked. ⢠The fish was dry, smelled unpleasant, and was nearly cold. ⢠The Greek salad bizarrely had a quarter of an overboiled egg and a random vine leaf dolma thrown on the side. ⢠The fries were limp, drenched in old oil, and tasted like theyâd been sitting out for hours.
The worst moment? While we were distracted chatting and watching the sea, a cat jumped on the table and started eating the fish. We told the waiterâand he simply didnât care. No apology, no replacement, not even a shrug.
đ Service & Ambience: Style Over Substance
The setting is actually beautifulâtables by the beach, a pretty arch thatâs clearly made for Instagram photos, and a lively atmosphere. But all of that falls flat when: ⢠The food is inedible. ⢠The staff is indifferent. ⢠And you feel like your feedback doesnât matter.
Thereâs no excuse for serving cold, old seafoodâespecially when the restaurant wasnât even at full capacity. If you canât keep up with fresh preparation, limit your tables. Donât compromise quality for volume.
â Where You Should Go Instead
Just a few doors down, for a similar price point, youâll find Nefeli Gardenâand you will be blown away. Fresh seafood, thoughtful plating, modern touches, and staff who care. Itâs everything Flegra isnât.

â Final Verdict:
Flegra is all aesthetics and no substance. It may look nice, but the food was unacceptable, and the service was apathetic. I wonât be returningâand I strongly suggest you skip it and head to Nefeli Garden instead. You...
Read moreThe whole experience was really something, we had 8 different personnel come to our table all for different purposes, one changed the table one brought us menus one took our order a different one brought the order(incorrectly) and 2 different people came for our check. The whole ordeal was very unorganized the staff were all rude and what i can see pissed off at eachother, they tried to add 4 portions of bread to our check(which we didnt order) totalling 7⏠but we called them out and they took it away and took it out of our check, they forgot to bring us one water when we ordered 2. We called them out and they checked they had written 2 but brought 1. The food was generally ok we ordered 2 portions of seabream(tsipura or gilt-head fish), a carbonara and grilled octopus. The carbonara was a good portion for the price, the seabream was cooked to perfection but the octopus for the price was a really small portion. We also ordered a greek salad which for some reason came with a quarter egg piece which was mixed in the bottom and a vine-leaf roll(sarma) in it. The atmosphere was good, we sat by the water and there was a breeze blowing the nearby bamboo shoots and it was quite pleasant. At the end when we requested the check they brought us 2 crepes on the house with banana ice cream, the crepe in of itself was quite tasty, but the waiter who brought it to us âpreparedâ the crepe in front of us by massacring it like it owed him money, totally unprofessional, which when he was busy cutting away both me and the other waiter with the check got splashed with chocolate syrup. In conclusion, take my review with a grain of salt as i can only give 3 stars due to my personal experience. If the service were better and they didnt try to blatantly steal from us i wouldve given it a...
Read moreThe Flegra, meaning "place of fire", is a typical Greek taverna, but with a different touch. It is ideal for those who seek the rich and genuine local cuisine and enjoy a cheerful, vibrant atmosphere: there's always some sort of improvised entertainment going on in the restaurant, either provided by Giannis's trained parrots, or simply by someone of the staff theatrically cutting a succulent veal long bone rib chop in front of an impressed diner. The menu offers a wide selection of food, always of good quality, properly prepared, well presented and, last but not least, of good value for money. There is no dessert list, but a mouth-watering pancake, filled with banana icecream and floating in melted dark chocolate, comes as a complimentary surprise at the end of the meal. The owners, Nikolaos and Giannis Wamvacas, take also pride in their wine list and in the private collection they keep hdden in their canteen for the eyes and palate of few priviliged. No need to say that they try their best to take good care of their customers and always make sure that everyone gets all the attention from the friendly and efficient staff in charge of the service. Here I need to thank especially Alex and Yllca who took care of my husband and myself during the ten days we spent in Polychrono, lodged in one of the pleasantly decorated boutique rooms of "Alkionides", the guest-house located just above the restaurant and impeccably run by Eri, Nikolaos's wife. All the rooms are equipped with a mini fridge, which stands as an invitation to a refreshing drink, after a sunny day spent at the beach, to be enjoyed on the balcony with an unobstructed view of a calm and blue sea. A very good combination then of lodging and food, ideal for a laid-back and perfect stay in...
