For the first time in my life I got to experience an episode of 'Kitchen nightmares' in person. Up until now I always thought that the show was purposefully dramatic and that it's not possible to happen in real life.
It was a Friday night and there was a rush hour in every restaurant, we decided to sit here since it was the only restaurant with free tables left. This restaurant was not prepared for a full restaurant and a busy night. To me it seemed that there was only one waiter, one guy helping with minor tasks (he informed us that he can only take drink orders and not food orders), a female owner and what seemed to be a restaurant manager or a male owner. In total 4 people but only one officially waiting tables. They were audibly arguing with each other while we were there, and everything seemed so disorganized. It was clear that the sole waiter needed actual help and was the only professional working that evening. Apart from arguing with each other - the female owner took it upon herself to also argue with the guests at the table next to us, when they complained that their grilled octopus was charred (which it was, I was able to see it), she told the woman next to us that it is supposed to look like that (I ordered the same and my octopus was not charred like that).
From the moment we sat at our table, it took them about 20 minutes to take our drink orders, and almost 50 minutes to take our food orders. In that time we got the entree of the table next to us, even though on our table we only had drinks and nothing else. It took them 15 minutes to realize the mistake and give the entree to the right table. The faces of all guests were of complete confusion. Total chaos. When the guy who was either the manager or owner finally arrived to take our order it took him three tries to actually fill the order on his phone, double checking everything (which is not a problem at all normally, but we were already irritated because of the long wait time), of course no one from the staff apologized for the chaos or the long wait time even once, no one even acknowledged it.
The food arrived in random order, and the starters were good - I can recommend the garlic bread, the tzatziki and the salted anchovies, my girlfriend liked the feta with honey. These are all standard for any Greek taverna and most of them are already prepared so it's not rocket science to get it right. She was satisfied with her grilled prawns and I tried them, they arrived still hot. My octopus arrived completely cold (but at least it was not charred like the table next to us), the portion size was good and the taste was okay but definitely nothing to write home about since it was cold.
The toilet was dirty and in dire need of renovation.
Leaving 2 stars instead of 1 only because of tasty starters, the lonely hard working waiter, the nice looking menu, and a nice tall ficus tree that reminded me of the one I have at home.
So in short, I had to try very hard to think of reasons not to leave 1 star. There is so much space for the restaurant to function better and not a lot of space for it to...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant, Agirovoli in Nea Skioni is the place for you. We had the misfortune of dining here on a Saturday evening — two families, seven people — and let’s just say, the only thing impressive about the evening was how consistently disappointing everything was. Let’s start with the location. Yes, the tables are literally on the beach. Sounds dreamy? Think again. It’s all fun and games until you realize you need night vision goggles just to read the menu. No lights, not even a sad flicker of a phone flashlight from the staff. We were basically ordering in braille. Now, you’d expect a seaside taverna to have draught beer — especially on a Saturday evening, peak time. But no. Apparently, that’s too much to ask. “No draught beer,” said the waiter, like it was perfectly normal. Cool. Then came the waiting game. One hour — one full hour — between dishes. We could’ve caught the fish ourselves, grilled it over a beach bonfire, and still eaten faster. Orders were mixed up (we got dishes we never ordered), while basic things like fried zucchini took an eternity. At one point we weren’t sure if they were growing the zucchinis from seed. When the food finally arrived, it ranged from mediocre to plain bizarre. The swordfish? Decent… if you like it cold and served with pickles. Because nothing screams "Mediterranean seafood" like a sad scoop of brine-soaked vegetables. A culinary choice that can only be described as… puzzling. We had one beer, two iced teas, a glass of wine, three main dishes, and one starter. Total: 62 EUR. For what? Slow service, confused orders, cold food, and a dark beach picnic with a side of frustration. Final verdict: Agirovoli is a place to avoid. If you enjoy paying premium prices for bottom-tier service and cold fish, go ahead. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and walk a few steps to literally any other restaurant. Your taste buds and your patience...
Read moreWill repost my post again since it was deleted. It was afternoon and quit time with no people in the place, the place's location is great, but there was a lady behaved unfriendly, impolite in her attitude, response and discussion. We wanted to sit in the first row while the restaurant was empty and she blocked us from sitting on a free table from all free tables and said that "people will come soon to eat as it's time for lunch", and she was not friendly since she knew that we wanted to drink something only. We sat, finished drinking, paid and left and no body came to fill the tables as she said almost after 1 hour it was still empty. Bad experience we had and I guess they ask their friends to write good reviews after they have changed the page and deleted the all old reviews. They could reply to all reviews and accept criticisms...
