TAVERNA GIANNIS (The Peach bar) — Restaurant in Municipality of Agios Vasileios

We've visited multiple tavernas on Crete now and this was the first one that ripped us off. We ordered several items from the menu and upon receiving the bill they just upped the price of some of them. The tzatziki went from 5 to 6 euros, the same is true for the spicy cheese dip. The wine (500ml) went from 4 to 6. Upon confronting the waiter about this he just looked confused and said something like the "the prices have changed" and "this is a new wine", which is imo just a rip-off. It's not my fault the prices on the menu are incorrect then. Anyway, I didn't want to discuss it any further so I just paid the price they asked. Normally I always leave a tip, but they already gave themselves one.

The food was mediocre at best; Nothing special, but acceptable for the prices listed on the menu..

It was late evening and the lights on the terrace were very bright, it didn't have a nice atmosphere.

My advice is to go next door to Taverna Dentro. The quality of their food is much better, for basically the same price (if not cheaper). They have a great atmosphere and even greater view over the Cretan/Libyan sea and their staff are just really sweet, kind and hospitable. Most importantly; they don't...

I ate at two Tavernas before coming to Giannis, and they were good, but his was the best. In the end I ate there four times even though I usually like to try different places. I had the grilled seabream with grilled vegetables, which was simply incredible. Very fresh, perfectly cooked and plentiful. The following time, I had chicken souvlaki, which was great also, but the seabream was so good I went back for it twice more. You can have it with chips too, but I much prefer vegetables. I also had courgette flowers, which I loved. The portions are generous, so don't eat too much for your meal before! Giannis is very friendly, but not too much, which is important! I do not like when the friendliness feels insincere. He was genuinely friendly. The only thing I did not like was the rose wine, but I am quite difficult with wine. I only drink southern...

This is a great place. We have been there several times and all the time Giannis and his family welcomed us with their amazing hospitality. The food is local sourced and very delicious. My favourite are the zucchini flowers. Giannis will tell you what the kitchen has to offer today. You will have a great view to the sea and seeing the moon rising there is stunning. It is a place where you relax from your Crete adventures. Enjoy that life slows down here. You can always have a nice chat with Giannis. He is really a great guy.
